I hear it fairly often, and I know I like it.

Give me a good jazz artist & album to download.

Thanks.

Yesterdays New Quintet_Angles Without Edges...........

Yesterdays New Quintet is the hip hop producer Madlib aka
Quasimoto doing some groundbreaking instrumentals using old
hard to find bebop jazz and breakbeat samples etc forming a
home made jazz ensemble.
Its a very good album and i allso recomend his crazy helium
voice emceing alter ego quasimoto.

I love the way I added completely unnecessary extra ''E''s
to ''bitch''. That was tres chic of me. N'est pas?

A L B U M S people, A-L-B-U-M-S

I don't know if you know this, but Miles Davis did a lot.

Miles Davis -On the Corner (early 70s)... Davis actually
remixed the recordings to get the sound he wanted,
foreshadowing hiphop and electronica by more than a decade.
jazz conservatives hate it.

Miles Davis- Kind of Blue (late 1950s) considered the
"perfect" jazz album by jazz fans.

bitches brew (a little weirder.. just so ur warned)

Bitches Brew is the most "rock" of his styles i think

On the Corner the most funky studio album

Kind of Blue- warm, subtle, excellent and your mom wont mind
either. i actually find the easier stuff the hardest to get
into.

Birth of the Cool- classic "retro" jazz sound, wasnt retro
then, was ground breaking for the 40s, sounds classic and
nice now.

good places to start.

and then there are dozens of live jam records....

or get Squarepusher's Music Rotted... total mindfuck

Coltrane - Sun Ship

Mark Ribot - don't know the album title, but he plays John
Zorn pieces. could be as simple as Mark Ribot plays John
Zorn or something as silly.

If you like old (30's) jazz:
Django Reinhardt & the quintet of the Hot Club of France -
there are numerous compilations. The pre-war stuff is the
"most classic" Django

Jimmy Smith - Damn! (I think it's called)

Hagans-Animation/Imagination
Dave Brubeck-Take Five
Miles Davis-Live Evil
Also try Nightmares on Wax. Carboot Soul and Smoker's
Delight are good albums.

The more popular (ie. easy to find and relatively cheap to
buy) ones that are really good

Miles Davis 'Bitches Brew', 'Live-Evil', 'Sketches of Spain'
and of course 'Kind of Blue'
Dexter Gordon 'Go!'
Art Blakey 'Paris Jam Sessions'
Herbie Hancock 'Maiden Voyage', 'Head Hunters'
John Coltrane 'A Love Supreme', 'Blue Trane', .... too many
Art Ensemble of Chicago 'Bap-Tizum'
Ornette Coleman 'Free Jazz', 'Dancing in the Street', 'The
Shape of Jazz to Come'
Sun Ra 'The Futuristic Sounds Of Sun Ra'

John Zorn is worth a listen too. His live cds are the best.
Give him a listen first because he's not the best intro
into jazz. Unless, of course, you like the idea of
Jewish-American hard-core, punk, avant-garde jazz :)

Not venturing out of the IDM scene, Squarepusher's 'Music is
Rotted One Note' is an amazing recording too.

all these suggestions are GREAT.

there is so much great jazz out there, and so many different
styles. the main thing is sample a little of everything so
you don't miss some jewels out there. =)

i have naked city. insane it is. 'james bond', 'batman',
ornette coleman's 'lonely woman'. it's just crazy.

i love the surf guitar throughout the album as well. zorn =
genius.

unfortunately i haven't heard the other naked city albums.
'radio' i think is the name of one. from what i have read
the albums are similar to the s/t'ed one in style though.

if you like ambient or are a bit in electronics you will
probably like
Nils Petter Molvaer (with the a and e together i think)
i have "Khmer" and it is really fine; the guy always plays
the trompet.

Once on a radio show i heard a track by Basement Jax with
some famous horn player with a funny name.
The colaboration/projekt was called something strange.
It was pretty darn good!
Does anyone know anything about this?
