everybody in the media is dissing guero. i've only read bad
reviews so far.
is it because nobody wants to talk in a positive way about
beck now that it's known that he's a scientologyst or do
they find guero really bad?

the thing about scientolgy: it's bad because they
financially exploit their members, but otherwise they dont
differ a lot from other religions. so scientology may put a
lot of pressure on the average member, but for somebody like
beck, who's wealthy it shouldnt be a problem to give part of
his fortune to scientology from time to time. in conclusion:
for a wealthy celebrity, who is looking for "something" a
"religion" like scientology is like any other religion.
(same would go for madonna and kaballa).

but musically. what do you think of the music? i like it a
lot.

Bought the deluxe version and it comes in another
unstoreable DVD-case sized book with a huge booklet that
features even more ugly guero art and photos. The album
itself is really great and remixes are even better. It runs
through very smooth but every song has its own vibe.
Sadly the Dvd is a joke unless you have a 5.1 system. The
announced video mix of all songs sucks bad. Even the Winamp
Plugin is better and the exclusive photos are screenshots of
that terrible mix.

i read only good reviews. i think the album is
dissapointing.
because he was writing the songs on guero at the same time
as sea change, so he has had 6 years between midnite
vultures and now to collect some catch tunes. and the tunes
on guero are nowhere near as good as the tracks on midnite
vultures, which is awesome.

Having followed Beck for almost 10 years now: I like this
new record. A lot. How about that vocoder/harmonica on "Hell
Yes"? Never heard that instrument combo before. That and the
chains on "Farewell Ride" are my favorite sounds on the
album. Handclaps galore too, great stuff I'm a fan of the
handclaps

i tend to try and judge a person and their musical abilities
entirely independently; you can get quite clouded judgement
if you let it impact it.

I'm sure it's MUCH better than Midnite Vultures
I fucking sold that POS after just a week
His worst one, ever.
Sea Change is ok I guess, kinda depressing to me.
I told one of my buds that it reminded me of Syd Barrett's
stuff and he said what's wrong with that... but of course,
he's a Barrett slut.
Stereopathetic Soul Manure and One Foot In the Grave are
great too
Beck is an intelligent standup dude
