Metheny's a great guitarist, and there's some good stuff,
but for me it gets uninteresting real fast, particularly
when he starts playing fast licks. I'm not about licks. But
i respect him. And I haven't heard the new album.

I found the same problem with his stuff..his fast playing
borders on Satriani, Vai excessess...he will get nice
atmospheres goin and then he starts wailing...i am like..bye

right on. have to be able to hear the notes or something.
There are a couple of fast players I tolerate, django
reinhardt for one. But the fast stuff is usually in short,
terse and well-composed bursts. And I saw michael brecker
play once. Amazing speedy technique (that goes for the whole
trio, particularly the drummer, Ricki M. something or
other—it was actually 'his' trio) that bordered on wailing
like that sometimes, but was for the most part pretty
incredible. I wouldn't want to play like that, but it was
quite a night.

the only fast player I had time for was Bucket Head but
even he started to become a bit..you know wanky..
I prefer my guitar players on the other end of the
spectrum..slooower the better..like Justin Broderick off
Godflesh

i liked this one song with the sequincer
i think vai is such a conceited bastard, i've got this one
album which i liked but had all these pictures of him in it
even worse was a booklet i saw once from ingwy mamsteen
where he poses with his ferrari, but he makes (made) really
stupid music

Yngwie Malmsteen?? sheesh that brings back memories..horrid
ones..there was this whole culture who's the fastest
guitarist and competitions clocking them..ugh...rock was
headed to a very scary place until Grunge happened in early
nineties

while metheny can rip up a fret board, he also has quite a
nice touch for the softer ones, like "the road to you"
"letter from home" and the one i am listening to now, off
the new album, "another life." the guy is a genius... joey
