Recomendation for the doom fans. (there are plenty here at
XLT =) )
Check out his guest apperance on Daedelus latest album
"exquisite corpse" (2005).

MF's weird trademark offbeat deranged storytelling and
clever rhymes spiced with random out of context comments
and conclutions fits very well with Daedelus casual samba
breakbeats and strings that sounds like they are sampled
from an old black & white movie.
Eventho Doom seem to have trouble keepin up with the high
BPM (as most rappers would) it doesn't matter cause his
slick rhymes carry themself.
To bad the track is only 2:17 long (typical doom)

They really should do a whole album together i think . Their
styles fits together like ketchup and mustard .

Doom and madlib has sampled (ripped of his style actualy)
Daedelus alot in the past. For example the album opener
"Accordion" on Madvillany samples a large chunk from
Daedelus "Experience" ("Invention" album).

Quite buttery.

Cool . some idiot posted whole tracks from the album on his
site =)

Here ya go Impending Doom

Although now i feel i have hyped up the track a bit to much
with this topic. It really isn't anything special. Just your
average casual Doom cleverness.
Still it gives you fantasies of a awesome MF / Daedelus
colab album doesn't it.

"deep friend fries"

Ha! i used this track on a compilation too =)
A compilation i played at work , people there doesn't get
Doom at all , but they will. They like it more when i play
more catchy hip hop like Gangstarr or Beatnuts or something.

Same when i first played alot of abstract IDM stuff , they
all thought i was a freak. But now they are used to it and
sometimes people even come up and say stuff like "this track
is pretty cool , what is it?" .
I love shocking everybody , just when they think they have
my music taste figured out i hit with something completely
different .
Im thinking of making a Grindcore compilation next haha!

do you play in a club in stockholm? We dont have any places
where they play idm, but we do have a few good places for
hiphop, they've even played mf doom.

what do you think of the mix? its the first one ever.

No im not a DJ . Lots of my friends are Dj's tho who play at
DnB clubs and i sometimes come and watch.
I don't know if there is any IDM clubs , i have never
bothered to look into the matter. Mainly because i didn't
have any friends who where into it and i don't want to go
alone.
Now i have some friends who like it , so maybe i should put
some energy into finding out what this town has to offer.
I was at a IDM club once and it was awesome , great music
and great visuals at the walls (at one screen they where
showing Cubriks "2001" for example) but my friends where
constantly bitching and moaning about the music and wanted
to leave.
Im very happy about my new musicaly open minded friends.
We have been to lots of Electro events , indie clubs and a
Mum concert so far.

The Mix is great , lots of stuff that is new to me . Very
good for a first time.

Care to post a tracklist ?

So you visit Hip Hop clubs ? I have done that to alot but i
prefer other places. I love the music but i can't stand the
people at those kind of clubs. One cool thing tho is Hip Hop
jams or whatever they are called when a bunch of break dance
crews hook up and battle each other. Real B boy stuff . The
atmosphere is great.
I have a friend who is a proffesional dancer and he has
dragged me along to that sort of stuff a couple of times.

thats not right. madlib contacted daedelus and asked if he
could sample his track .exp (i've heard this from daedelus
himself) and its mentioned in the madvillainy booklet.

Borowed is a better word.

it's a fine track, but i think daedelus is at his best when
he's not catering to an mc.

by the way, what doom is recommened other than madvillainy?
vaudeville villain, perhaps? i like the title.

Agreed , some of his stuff is pure genius.
Still tho , a Doom / Daedelus album would be awesome.

indeed. he's definitely got a unique style, while at the
same time he keeps it fresh. and i'm all for collabs,
especially between good mcs and really good electronic or
instrumental hip hop producers; prefuse comes immediately to
mind, as well as some anticon acts, and beans, too. beans is
a fine "rapper" but the production on his solo recordings
tend to leave you slightly underwhelmed.

I LOLed at the way Doom ends the track with
"....but..i..ooouh!........where's his other foot at ? "

He must be on some new undiscovered alien drug . No MC is
comparable to him . He might sound like others when it comes
to voice (Nas and Awol one comes to mind) and there might be
more technicaly skilled rappers out there but his ...i don't
know , personality and lyrical context is so unique.

i've been listening to this album a lot over the last day or
two... i'm very very happy with it... Daedelus' production
just gets better and better, so much gorgeous dusted
orchestration... he has such a good handle on over-the-top
pop melodies... in anyone else's hands, a lot of this stuff
would just be corny, but with him, it's just incredibly
sweet and uplifting... there have been some reviews that
have said that Daedelus doesn't voice himself enough in the
album because he's making room for his collaborators, but i
pretty much completely disagree with that... 9 times out of
10 this album if amazing because Daedelus is amazing, and
his arrangements are absolutely ideal for the pals he brings
along... the world need more pop producers like this guy...
underrated as fuck.

well, i think to be totally accurate that needs to be judged
on a track by track basis, because i really think that the
production on the doom track is flat, for whatever reason.
but, on other tracks that's not the case, such as "now &
sleep", "drops", and even "move on" which, while kind of
simplistic, still shows some creative flair. i do agree that
this album is great because daedelus' production is great,
for the most part. the collabs are nice, but they don't
really "make" the album.

also, while i think prefuse's surrounded by silence has two
or so tracks that probably beat anything on exquisite
corpse, exquisite corpse is a better album. and,
surprisingly, sourrounded by silence was better because
of
the collabs. i don't know if scott's style is just
getting tired or if this particular release just wasn't as
inspired as, say, anything else he's released.
