Bored of breakcore

Argh. There is way too much of this comming out nowadays.
But aside from the occasional concept album by mr funk, this
genre has seemed to homogonize itself all too completely.
Its really present when you look at labels like planet-mu,
who were releasing some really interesting stuff for a
while. Now all that seems to come out of it is boring
distorted breaks. Jega's geometry was breathtaking, but the
new one, varience has some amazing and beautifull songs on
it, but they all get throttled when the breakcore song after
it turns up. And billbious paths was something I think most
people wouldn't mind ignoring (well, at least I wouldn't).
Anyways, I just wanted to rant about that.

->)-PEACE-(<-

when you reach this point, I highly recommend a healthy dose
of cheesy euphoric trance music

In England it's called drill 'n' bass, isn't it?

Well, I agree the genre is getting a bit stale, but only
because too many people are mashing up samples and breaks
and forgetting the other side of things imho. I think many
albums in that style are wicked fun, but things need to move
forward and get more musical and perhaps even more extream;
loads of those albums sound like one another with similar
mashups and DSP-trickery-hows about some interesting musical
elements, or synth work, or even live playing thrown in?
Squarepusher's "Go Plasitc" and Venetian Snare's Chrome
album (forgot the full title) show me that there's a lot of
potential yet.

Yeah. I like the chrome cylinder album, and that crazy
german sounding title album... but most snares stuff is kind
of boring IMO. As well, kid 606 occasionally breathes some
life into it, but there is only so much cpr one can take...

I was just kind of sad about the direction Mu has been
taking, and wanted to vent.

i thought drill'n'bass is just without distorted snare
drums

anyway there is a stagnation of the music lately zzzzzz

I'm getting bored of all the ragga samples being thrown in.
And random samples just thrown into insane breaks with
seemingly no thought, period.

Actually the above is a lie. There's nothing better to rave
to than that kind of stuff, imho.

No.

Drill'n'bass = highly complex beats of any kind

Breakcore = hardcore breaks, usually a distorted kick thrown
in

Breakcore is the word Mike Paradinas uses to describe the
heavy break style music that has been popular lately. Stuff
like vsnares and shitmat and what have you...

I like gabba when its done correctly, but I don't like the
random sounding overly complex breaks.

lol @ highly complex beats of any kind!
is it really suposed to mean something? i'm perplexed,
drill'n' bass must be a very old genre!

I was merely describing it in a nutshell. I suppose it
sounds a bit vague, hopefully Bob isn't as big a pedant as
you.

Um, I dont like breakcore but Bilious Paths is ace. And I
wouldn't consider Geometry to be breakcore at all.

drill = lots of stutters in the drums
breakcore = really fucking mashed up, crunchy shit

personally, i'm more into jazzcore..

drill contains fluxuation in higher BPM

breakcore usually tends to have a set pace as drill can
really be all over the map

the line between drill&bass and breakcore is pretty thin.
but drill&bass has "complex" breakbeats with a more coherent
structure then breakcore. something like druqks for example.
or stuff that squarepusher does. or The Flashbulb. this has
complex beats with a clear structure and elements that
"normal" songs have. like: melody, bass, etc,...
Breakcore is drill&bass taken a step further. and is usally
mixed with hardcore or ragga. also most of it (not all of
it) has lesser (or no) melody and focusses more on the
breaks and rythems. it is also noisier then drill&bass. and
features a distorted bassdrum. (not always ofcourse)

ps. calling Geometry a breakcore album is an insult btw.
where exactly do you hear the "core"? it isn't even
drill&bass.

i agree that its kinda boring - more just painful to me but
at the end of the day if you dont like it just ignore it;
planet mu may change their output when money starts getting
tighter.

Breakcore is for all the goth kids who don't want to be goth
anymore and they got bored with Skinny Puppy and trance
music but still wanted to keep their scary counterculture
image but only ended up creating a new easily defineable
genre that is just as annoying and gay as goth.
