What are the telltale signs?
One is Homer being hilariously arrogant and cocky.
Another is the actress who does Marge's voice sounding like she's about to croak and die with every line.
Any more?

Tony Blair and Ian McKellen to name a couple. One a great actor who deserved better, the other a cunt who deserves worse.
Answers: 1. Ian McKellen 2. Tony Blair

i found that london episode to be one of the better of the latest few.
they have definitly gone downhill but there's always a gem to be found somewhere in the episode.

I don't understand what people saw in that episode.
It was badly paced, the storyline was fucking moronic, the Trainspotting part was pretty pointless since the film is set in Scotland, nobody laughed. Except you and and a few others.

I still laugh a lot at the Simpsons.
it has become kind of "in" to bash the Simpsons the last few years.

I wouldn't say I laughed out loud at every turn but it was rather entertaining (maybe not as much for you because you're british and don't find the stereotype as funny). I might have sniggered here and there. Like Ian Mckellen's "look what you've gone and done you blundering fool" lotr reference; it was comical. But yeah, the quality is nowhere near where it used to be. They should discontinue and focus on futurama.

I don't see any evidence of it becoming popular to bash The Simpsons myself..
Either way, I think it's deserved of a bashing with the substantial dip in quality it has suffered, and it's not just the jokes, everything has fallen to pieces. If you like it fine, but maybe you could understand more when someone you love seems to unconditionally enjoy every episode :(

what!? you must be kidding!
read any thread about the simpsons on this forum alone the last few years and see people smashing into it!
I'm not saying everyone is following a trend, but it does seem rather.. like a trend. um.
however, I did not know you have had personal grief on this account, I must apologise and say you have my sympathies.

Stereotypes aren't funny to me, whether I'm in the group of people being stereotyped or not. Intentionally caricatured stereotypes.. I don't know.. they're just infuriating to sit through. Even the Family Guy episode was similarly unwatchable. It's just too retarded.
qrter: I appreciate it *walks with a fake limp*
Anyway, the last good episode I saw was the Robot Wars episode.. which actually had the tiniest bit of feeling in it. Sort of like a smiling corpse.

I think Futurama was always much better. Futurama has so much more to say, and the jokes were superior. Simpsons was fantastic for 3 or 4 seasons, but before and after those key middle seasons, it ran out of things to say, more or less. Simpsons is a look at family life, wheras Futurama is about individual integrity, destiny, purpose. Futurama is actually profoundly philosophical.

futurama was very funny, but even that show declined. the later episodes with celebrity guests weren't nearly as good as the earlier ones. i'm glad the show ended before it got really bad like the simpsons did.

i remember a recent episode that mentioned pokemon and another that mentioned ebay.
now they do still exist, they aren't in their prime hype stages.
also, this kind of humor doesn't really appeal to me, but if you're going for the current jokes they should probably do them well, current.

aye, i'll second that
jokes about current affairs/trends/excetra.. age badly, which is why newer episodes of the simpsons seem dated already, yet the early ones are timeless

how about the ones where personalities held by the characters for years seem to just vanish?
i.e. lisa being interested in things bart is interested in. sorry if that is a bit vague. i don't watch much of the newer episodes. they just seem to throw more on the crap heap.
how about the episode where marge became like mother to nelson? nelson's dad was a dead beat who left years ago and his mother appeared to be drugged out and her underwear constantly fell down her legs (awfully unfunny joke)
WELL in a past episode season 4 or 5 i believe, homer forgot to pick up bart (trab pu kcip, trab pu kcip) from soccer practice. bart got a bigger brother through a foundation then homer became a bigger brother for spite.....
in this episode they showed nelson's father and he wasn't a dead beat and he looked nothing like the one they showed in the later episode
