are franz ferdinand big in the US?

and have u heard of a scottish band called sons and
daughters, they toured with franz ferdinand last year and
played a few dates in texas, the reason i'm asking is
because i used to play in a band with the girl bass/mandolin
player

oh yeah i wouldnt class franz or bloc party as new wave

At least Futureheads put some energy into their music. Good
antidote to weedy indie emo kids whining about their lack of
imagination and ambition.

well, new and popular are two different things... these
bands are just now being heard in the US...

just like modest mouse last year... i first listened to them
in 97 when they were signed to a little label out of
washington state.

new wave is the commercial faux-punk music (blondie, talking
heads) from the 1980's? what is the question?

will it become a trend? are the 80s going to be popular? are
we done having to hear angry music on the radio?

ooh, stella star. yeah they are good. as are the killers.
stella star kinda strikes me as 80's revival though, not so
much some 'new' innovative equivalent of new wave
particularly.

this could be a natural progression from the garage rock we
heard a few years ago... just like new wave came from punk

ok, thanks for answering me. now i will participate in a
serious manner.

will it become a trend? i think it already is.
are the 80s going to be popular? i think they already are.
the seventies as well.
are we done having to hear angry music on the radio? i
haven't listened to mainstream radio in about ten years, so
i'm ok with it being on there. i don't mind. but is any of
it actually, genuinely "angry"? and if so, what's wrong
with being angry?

"new wave" is not in any way an evolution from punk rock.
punk was a profound cultural and political art movement.
new wave is the superficial, commercialised parody of the
real deal. if anything, it is many steps backward from the
critical impact punk rock had on the art world and society
at large. at best, it is mainstream entertainment, at worst
it is a cruel joke.

I thought this was going to be about French cinema, and I'm
totally bummed that it's not, man.

I think things go in ever decreasing circles, it's Punk II,
then New Wave II, then, what'll it be, New Romantics II(b)
(discounting the the New Romos of 1996), then it'll be arch
pop and then it'll be punk again until some twat discovers
Led Zeppellin again. At least it keeps kids happy.
