lets discuss idm

most say that idm is not good as it was in the 90s.
but:
best rich - drukqs (2001)
best tom - ultravisitor (2004)
best mike - bilious paths (2003)
best luke - YosepH (2003)
best ae or best plaid doesnt matter.

so id say the 00s are doing great too.
but than:

RDJ album - 1996 and that was his best to date.
Than we had some nice eps and than we had drukqs, the best
idm album ever. Since drukqs:
-the shitie compilation 26 mixes;
-the ridiculous smojphace;
-the poor analord series and:
how much will we wait till next richard's "best release till
date"?

No it isn't, it's sub standard low grade perforated digital
clonery devoid of ethics. If you weren't listening to mp3's
on your mums Dell PC speakers you might develop a clue.

is idm defined by a few artists/record labels? where do you
draw the line.

example: squarepusher has some stuff that i would classify
as more jazz than idm

IDM is the most loosey goosey genre ever because it attempts
to include some sense of an ideology in addition to a
'sound'.
that's why the line's 'fuzzy'

soooo.....

Q: Is the Postal Service IDM? it sounds like it!
A: No.

Q: Is Steve Reich IDM? It's intelligent!
A: No.

Q: Is DJ Dara drum n' bass?
A: Yes.

Naw. I would say that IDM really sucked early 90's peaked
once when afx released Select Ambient Works Volume Two, and
then peaked again in 2000 when Æ released EP7. After EP7,
IDM seemed to kind of shatter itself, and really can't be
discussed specifically as IDM anymore. Now it seems to be
Drill n bass, ambient, glitch, microsound, microhouse,
industrial, acid, etc. I guess if you like stuff like drill
n bass then it might have peaked for you around 96, cause
thats when it was still fresh, and so many people were
releasing great albums.

So far for me, it seems to be 98-02 that was the time for
this music, cause thats when a lot of the seminal glitch
albums were released; LP5, Geometry, EP7, Lipswitch, Brown
Out, Vocal Studies and Uprock Narritives, Now You Know...
just to name a few.

I don't really ever look at the future with dread, or the
past with too much admiration, cause I know there is always
going to be some amazing music comming out.

it's never gonna "peak" because people can never agree on
what is good and what isn't. some say that draft suck others
say that it's a masterpiece. that's the way of idm (and yes,
it's a silly name but people use it anyway).

I love it when people post their opionion, and then other
people tell them their opinion is wrong because opinions
differ. Its like saying someones voice is ugly because
peoples voices are different.

Taxis i know but Stefano says bulllshit - that sentence is
like having a poopy on everything Plaid or Ae did.

well, maybe it's just the case that i will accept such an
opinion from anyone here except Stefano - cause he just
doesn't faggin know what he's talking about.

i just get pissed off reading his posts - mostly

alright, i'm calm now

i'm gonna count to 10 next time before i decide to comment
his opinions

Yeah. Its all good. That was a pretty funny rant though :)

I think stefano_azevedo's poor taste in 'best albums' should
really speak for itself. Yoseph is good, but doesn't even
hold a birthday candle to musipal (which, imo, is luke
viberts shining moment).

Anyways I am kinda started to get tired off all the flaming
for the sake of flaming that seems to go on in here. If
somebody actually has a point to make, then make it. I think
its kind of funny when you are agreeing with someone, and
they go around and take one little word you say, and then
turn it around, making it into a 10 post argument because
they didn't read your first post properly.

you mean that recent Reason thread ? i fav+'d it cause i
consider trying reason. comparing software is kinda
difficult, cause it all depends on various things.

well i didn't really mean to bash Stefano-San - i got pissed
with that post cause i immediately thought about Plaid -
spokes album - and how i can't stop listening to it for its
structures, mixing [...] and how great album that is

and not IMO only, so...

Not just the reason thread. That was a good example though.
Those pro-reason people were attacking people who didn't
rave about reason, not becuase they dissagreed on the
program really, but because the other people didn't 100%
agree with them. Its the way this mb has always been, but
its stupid. I used to do that from time to time, but I
decided I didn't need to anymore, so I have pretty much
stopped, cause it was stupid.
