what are the rules? can't i just make a pattern at 1000 bpm and speed it up to two or three times that fast and call it a song? because if so, i think i already won this world record several times more than mobby.

if you get something to play fast enough, it no longer takes the shape of a beat - but an actual musical note. b/c all sound is vibration at different rates. after awhile its more like frequency (hz) than bpm.
commonly abbreviated as hz or seen with the f symbol, hertz equals one (0.00000000125) cycle per second, measuring the waves or frequencies of electric changes each second. so 'per minute' can quickly turn to 'per second'.
a cycle refers to a single repeating occurrence of a particular event. for example an event may have a cycle of one month. after the one month is over the cycle would start all over again.
my girlfriend has one of those.

[fun fact] in FFX you can break the limit and go 99999!
most my songs have pretty slow bpms, I'd say... if I play the synth, they usually land on 96 (I have no metronome, and it seems my natural pace is 96, but I vary between 4/4, 3/4, 8/8, and 7/8 without any coherence, it seems... )
