there are lots of parralels between Quasimoto's "The Unseen" and The Residents' "Not Available". did you realize that? Basis Approach: To record "The Unseen" Madlib became "Quasimoto", he chose a (new) pseudonym. To record "Not Available" the individual members became the anonymous band "The Residents". Both artists created a new identity forthemselves. Quasimoto's intention when recording "The Unseen" was to do an album on which he just does what he wants not caring about how it will sell. The Residents claim that they recorded "Not Available" only forthemselves, not intending to release it at all (unless they would forget they recorded it, then it'd be okay to release it). Both artists didnt want to satisfy an audience but themselves. Musically: Both records use high-pitched voices a lot. While "Not Available" is based on Rock "The Unseen" is based on HipHop, but both albums have a general melancholic and surreal tone and lots of jazz influences. Even though both records have an unrealistic tone they seem to capture - humanity - and the individual, subjective human perception and therefore sound very "human". Actually I dont really care about such shit. But i just realized the parralels and thought "Wow! Lots of parralels, crazy shit!" |
