mogwai - government commissions

i picked this up today. it is a rather excellent collection
of ten songs from bbc sessions throughout 1996-2003, and is
dedicated to john peel in the liner note.

like herod just dropkicked my ears. really, most of these
tracks are better than the studio versions and are easy to
recommend. it's enough to satisfy me until the next proper
album.

kudos to mogwai for putting this out for the fans who may
never see them live.

i had heard it played in a shop, months before its release
and i liked it...

would it be a good choice for a newcomer, or would a
"proper" album be better? (probably)

is EP+6 good? it has a nice cover art.

fortunately, i stay in the same city as them and have seen
them loads over the years, i've met some of them and they
are real cool.

optimus - where do you stay? undoubtedly they will
eventually tour near you sometime, unless you live at the
north pole or sumthin...

in ontario, about two hours away from toronto. i've had no
way to see them in previous years, but if they tour again
sometime then i might be able to finally catch them.

no doubt they'll tour after the new album's out. i hear they
already have some stuff finished and have played it out
live.

Is this the same band that said they're punk rock because
they don't have lyrics? The oh-so knowing title "government
commissions", for a commercial release.... just makes me
want to kick they're Kappa'd arses through the top o' th'r
lazy Slint wanabee heeds.
