--- drill'n'bass ---

What do you think about this kind of music? Do you like
drill'n'bass a lot or not?

Honestly I like it but not so much, sometime I find it a
little bit boring.
I hoped who AFX with new album changed this style of music
but instead there are a lot of drill'n'bass songs on
DRUKQS.

I find the song "WINDOWLICKER" much more innovative compared
with many songs on DRUKQS.

Aaaah... Venetian Snares! :)

Drill and bass is great in small doses coz it all kinda
sounds the same after a few hours. Personally I was
expecting Drukqs to sound like 2 REMIXES BY AFX, Come To
Daddy and Squarepusher's GO PLASTIC. Guess not then... :)

Drill N Bass? It doesnt really take too much talent to make
a lot of Drill N' Bass its taking something more simple and
making that sound really good, that is hard to do .

even thou its not hard to create it still has its moment.
You know when you just want BBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRding. I guess
almost all music has its moment.

i think it's really hard to make drill and bass, because if
you just think of it as a bunch of snare rushes and crazy
ness, sure it might sound simple but it's accually pritty
compilcated, i like drill and bass because of the
technicality , i played some for my frend who normally
listens to rap and punk and he thought it was crazy shit
that would make you go insane, ive tryed to make a good
drill and bass song and ive found that it's really hard to
make the beats sound right.

yair its hard. its piss easy to make crap drill tracks, you
just boost the tempo and do randorm drums.
but thats crap.
you have to know drum sequence structures pretty well to do
decent stuff.

I find using delay sometimes helps to meld sounds together

also using a sweeping effect from left to right

i like drill stuff.

programming is fucking easy!
or for me at least.
but i make crap drill tracks, heh.
the melody is the hardest part for me.
bye.

I like variation. If you play one style for too long, it
loses power. Drill'n'Bass is best used as the climax track I
think. The genre itself is great IMHO...

I agree with Woofer and reflex, it is much harder to create
a innovative tune like Windowlicker.
Alltough Aphex drill n bass are much more complicated than
anyone else and Squarepusher has made it his specialty.
I don't think much of venetian snares though, that shit is
boring.

Yeah, Venetian Snares bores the shit out of me.

I'm working on a drill type track right now... it's not
randomd drums, I'm plotting it out. I kind of like it.

Drill'n'Bass is good when done well, there's some crap drill
stuff out there too..KID606..just cant get into his
shit..and I don't know if Alec Empire qualifies as
Drill'n"Bass but that man REALLY needs to overhaul his loop
and sample collection..it's probably because I don't like
the punk rap shit laid allover the 606 and Atari stuff

Woofer, it took balls to admit that you didnt like drill and
bass much, and im with you. I liked squarepusher for a
while, and lately i just have no intrest in listing to his
noisy ass, except for iambic5poetry of course. Aphex,
Boards of Canada, Plaid, they know how to make unique beats
without the noise, ya know?

Some drill n' bass is good, but too much is too much. I
don't really like tracks which are pure 'hard core' drill 'n
bass, but it is good when mixed in well with good melodies.

I LOVE drill and bass, but not too hardcore... not Venetian
Snares-hardcore. Complex beats that don't drown the
melodies, I love that.

If its AFX Drill N' Bass or AFX simple stuff like Caustic
Window Or AB3 im 100% going for the simple stuff.. I think
it has more igmagination.

that keep you on your toes

windowlicker is the archetype of a typical crap song. i'm
not saying is crap i just think that rdj was aiming for that
when he made it: the perfect crap song

I make both trip hop and some drill n base stuff. I think
its much harder (it takes longer time with the drum part) to
make drill n base than regular hip hop beats.

I like both though.

Windowlicker and Cock Ver10 both rocks.

First of all Windowlicker is a really innovative song
without any kind of stereopyte. It isn't drill'n'bass, it
isn't ambient, it isn't techno, etc...

Th rhythm is really particular with a lot of change, there's
a nice soft voice who give special deep effect to the song.
At 4'48" start my fav sound of the song really very
aggressive and rumorous, now the song become slow but harsh
with a great beat.

I find this track unique without any comparation with others
songs, it has a own style. imho.

I can say to Richard, yeah...I love your perfect crap song
(but isn't my favourite).

well i don't think it's innovative...

it's like an overproduced pop tune... (andrew WK) hahaha..

that doesn't mean i don't like it.. i think it's great

I find making drill n bass much easier if you slow the BPM's
way down when making the drumloops til you're happy then
speed it back up again.

And Andrew WK is some guy who released two very crap singles
which apparently "saved rock". I smell shit...

the drums are quite easy to create but it's the melody that
requires you to have some imagination. listen to mt saint
michel and notice all the 100's of little details RDJ has
put into the song.

isnt it just a electric guitar that comes in at that point
of windowlicker, isn't it just a electric guitar on come to
daddy that's been geniusly modified afterwords

I think the hardest part about making drill n bass is to
match a good melody. You actully need some connection with
the drums and the rest of the song to make it realy good.

offline OK on 2002-02-12 17:18 [#00086463]

take mt. saint miche.. the beat isn't created only by
drums... there ara gaps of melody (ies) that create the
effect of drumming. like at the end of the track but not
gaps aplied to all...

if you listen mt. saint mich. without headphones at the end
it sounds like drumming... with headphones it just sounds
like you're going to need a head replacement
