Untilted opinions.

Has anyone noticed how people suddenly love Untilted as it
is probably a real leak?

I'm not asserting it's crap, or that people are "pretending"
to like it, but I do find it funny how people couldn't
accept it was real and were dissing it initially, only for
opinions to suddenly shift after it was known that the leak
was probably real. I think it proves that the name behind
music does have a large effect on how far much people are
willing to "try" and like something....

or it could just mean it took some time for people to start
appreciating it.

either way, your theory is ungrounded.

Shit, I STILL dont think its great, and I have to be honest
with you, I still dont feel the reasons why its 'real' are
all that convincing:

Given, we now have promoters of upcoming shows posting on
their websites tracks from leak '2' as "promotional
samples," we have many verstions of alternate promo cover
art from various online retailers, ONLY radio 1 has played
ONE song off of a 'promo,' autechre's explicit history with
the media, autechre's past actions with the media, labels
like SKAM openly admitting they will only be sending out
editing versions as promos in the future, the main leak has
variable encoding rates, WARP taking down the album
description days after the first leak surfaced, etc., etc.,
etc..... the list goes on.

I officially say I will not be convinced until its release
date, or until warp posts track lengths and sound samples.

well, the name surely has an importance.

if Analord10 tracks had been made by a member of this board,
there wouldn't have been so much talk about it, would it...
(even if you remove all the talk about the vinyl itself, the
price etc)

Not to me it hasn't. Name means fuck all. I will speak
about many tracks off the board I like, however it is
difficult to engage people. For example I have repeatedly
stated my love for the Combine x44 track, but the only
person who has had a conversation with me about it on the
board is xceque.

The Analords I was hating on before I heard them, then I
gave them the respect I think they deserve.

when i first heard the opening beats of "LCC", i was a
little bit skeptical. once it started morphing and the
melodies seeped thru the madness, i knew it was Autechre.
and the rest of the album, i loved a lot. it is a superb
album.

but i will not deny the possibility that my enjoyment was
raised simply because i knew it was Autechre. i like their
previous work, and respect them as artists. this fact made
it easier for me to get into it. more accessible for me.
they've gained my trust, so i submit myself to it more
freely and lovingly. i think this is normal to do if you're
a fan of an artist though.

offline CS2x from London (United Kingdom) on 2005-03-03 15:29 [#01520627]
Points: 5079 Status: Lurker

Yes, it is normal.

I am the same-considering Autechre have put out brilliant
works like Chasitc Slide and Confield, I will be far more
willing to put time and effort into "seeing where they are
comming from" with this leak.

I don't know why I got such negative responses, I thought I
was pointing out something fairly obvious.

ill stand corrected if this isnt the real thing. but what im
listening to has that unique autechre swing. the natural
flow that theyve been working on for the past however long.
all is clear with champagne.

i've missed most of the debate on the real/fakeness of this
but i got it and immediately knew it was legit... i think
that its a fucking amazing release... i got stoned when i
listened to it for the first time, and it took me into a
very meditative state, errr not implying that im spiritual
or anything, it just yknow... took me to somewhere else, it
was nice 'n shit.

and the last half of Sublimit is possibly the most powerful
music autechre has created thus far.

its not that hard to distinguish the fake from the real,
because the real sounds so fucking good

there is only 3 things that bug me on this release

- that crappy pad in "lcc"
- how "iera" ends with the reverse beats seems lazy
- the fade out at the end of "sublimit" (this is only
annoying because i dont want it to end due to amazingness)

teapot, i thought those same exact things in the first
period of listening to that song. now i think entirely
different. now all of the bad things work and i realize
their purpose

I've been listening to this album for the last 2 - 3 weeks
and whether it is autechre or not (of which I have no doubt)
the fact is that it rates as one of the best electronica
albums I've heard in the last 5 years. The album flows
cohesively, covers new ground in terms of structure and
sound design, stands up on repeated listens... and it's only
128 mp3s! I can't wait to hear this as a properly released
piece of music. It doesn't sound at all derivitive of
anything that I've heard except maybe autechre!

To me, this album represents a major achievement for
electronica music in general and could go on to become the
definitive statement of what electronica is all about. I've
not been so hyped on an electronica release since I first
stumbled upon lexaunculpt's 12" on orange (another
genius!).

If it does turn out to be another artist, I'll be amazed.

Anyone who has listened to Confield, Gantz Graf, and Draft
7.30 should not need convincing that the leak is real. I
heard so much trash talking about this album in the
beginning, and I do get the feeling it will eventually stand
out as a one of their best (minus lcc).

- only ae is this good. I'm glad the synths are only there
in homeopathic doses. If you want Kitaro go hang out with
your yoga teacher. This is ae.

As penance for downloading the flacs I will buy two copies
and give one to a hobo.
