Simple music

Simple music is so much harder to create than complex
music...FACT

Analord is good, Analord is great.

I think this fact may be lost on some (certainly not all)
non music makers. The old saying 'Through enough shit and
some will stick' is true when it comes to complexity of
music.

Hi.

Hi ya lee! I do agree. It is harder to create because
sometimes there are less things to analyze. Makes it
difficult to create something simple that people accept and
readily appreciate

the problems may come from the fact that musicians that make
complex music can't always do what they want with it : i
mean they loose control cause it becomes sometimes even too
complex for them ; also complex structures are often use to
hide a lack of melodies...

i also really enjoy minimalist every now and then

jesus I don't know.. I think a really good melody is one of
the hardest things to create.

not a melody. anyone can poop out a melody, but a
truly great melody is hard as fuck.

is that the direction you're heading in?

people worship the skill involved with art. i'm not sure
why. maybe it's the easiest thing for them to understand -
musicianship, technical skill. perhaps it's easier for the
non-artist to understand years of honing one's craft rather
than the unexplainable moment of inspiration that often
trancends everything an artist knows.

but i assert, as always, that technique and complexity are
NOT required in great art.

It's not an opinionated generalisation. Your face doesn't
fit here, go and melt cheese on it.

I agree with qrter about melodies, that's one of the biggest
challenges. It's hard to measure, obviously, there are
different degrees of simplicity and complexity. To compare
would be just too general. I dunno about other people, but
as soon as I started making music, I started thinking like a
musicologist, technical aspects became important. It was
nothing to do with it being the easiest thing to
appreciate.

Combo, if you were implying that minimalist music is easy to
make, you're wrong.

When I started making music I began thinking about making
cheese on toast, with pre melted cheese...and then I thought
"I know, let's chop an 808 State sample the fuck up and use
it" and so the track "Needlefix was born"....everything from
that point got worse and I ceased making music 6 weeks ago
after suffering a mental breakdown caused by excessive
musicology.

i can by using a scientific process that has been in
practice for decades. it's called rocks/rots. here's an
eg:

ROCKS!
- the melvins
- analord
- black converse

rots.
- whitesnake (big time)
- ripped analord binder and sleeve
- green converse

as you can see, it applies to virtually anything in life and
is 100% accurate every time.

ive dabbled a little in created some tunes, but ive never
thought about it when i am doing it, ive always
just...dabbled - sometimes if you put to much thought into
art, it comes out to overboard or you hate the stuff all
together. i know a lot of writers and the most successful
ones get as much as they can out and try to write at least
all of the time, without thinking to hard on the actually
material.

i dont make music at all, ive dabbled in some electronic
stuff and some rock or acoustic guitar stuff, i used to sing
for a garage band when i was younger, but we just used to
play that generic punk metal nirvana blah blah stuff, ive
grown out of that - but my friends who were in that band
with me have not, but theyve evolved as writers.

perhaps the four of you could start one? everybody and
their mother has their own zine in the states (i don't,

nope, ive got the link to the band (well 2 bands) that used
to be my band - we never saved anything we recorded, its all
on some tape somewhere. well my band split into two
different ones, one punk band which is fucking great, but
there website is down, so i only have the myspace link, and
the other metal - who are also great but..some of their
stuff is just alright.

[punk] bugs and rats
[metal] disengaged

heh, yes, there are zines just about everything here, but we
have a real small market - a country of 2 million people and
usually no more that 30 people come to alternative music
gigs so i doubt this would work out..maybe if i had a good
job with lots of free time and nothing better to do..i used
to buy quite a number of various magazines but if i wanted
to get something about alternative music i had to get a
british or american one. people like lenny kravitz and
r.e.m. here.
