Fascism in europe..

Are the British National Party still known today as a
community of fascists? Or is this nostalgia? Was it a rumor?
When and what was the last BNP public demonstration if there
ever was one?

Does the Anti-Fascist Faction of Ireland still exist? When
was the last instance of them taking public action?

Is neo-nazi and neo-nazi'ism seen pretty often in the UK?

Does the faction "Combat 18" still exist?

BNP are still very much around but trying to shed their
truthful image of a bunch of fascist racists for that of ...
i don't have a clue.. people who are "hard on immigration"
(ie drive them out, beating them with batons and whatever
else)

Anti-Fascist Faction of Ireland? Never heard of them.

(they a lil less less than forza nuova)

sadly, this is true for all of europe's countries... :(

here in belgium, in the north of the country, there was a
quarter of the votes (+/- 1.000.000, 10% of the total
population...) for the ultra nationalist/xenophobic
far-right party, (vlaams belang, ex-vlaams block) which is
led by neo-nazis trying to be respectable, at the last
regional elections... and they grow thanks to all the
unhappy people voting for them by lack of alternatives.

Yeah the BNP even managed to get some fucking seats in the
local elections here.

Plughole drainage.

be a part of europe. We don't act like we are that is for
sure.

The BNP are insignificant, but generate more coverage than
they warrant.

20pct of the danes vote Danish Folk Parti, considered by
many a racist and fascist party. They have root in Danish
Front, which def is some nationalistic front.

Italy is basically being run by Neo-Fascists... fortunately,
dude seems more into money than values or anything... but
i'm expecting him to get his ass-kicked out of parliament
rather swiftly, come next election.... the world is
choosing, which side is your country on... oh, yes: Congrats
Portugal! :)

it seems like this go around, people are being pushed out of
the center, and are actually making ideological choices
(whether the governments the people elect reflect these
choices or not remains to be seen, but that's another matter
entirely)... do we support the present "war on terror" and
all the right-wing baggage and values, which such a war
attaches itself to? USA: Yes, Canada: No, Spain: No,
Portugal: No, Russia: Putin!!! (?!?!?!...?)... has the
British election happened yet? in any case the answer looks
like Yes, doesn't it?... oh well, hang in there friends...

The gov will stay in power at the election, but that's not
because people support the war on terror, IMO, more that the
alternatives are worse... :)

Cygnus: I think the BNP et al are still very much seen as
rascists, there was a very high-profile expose of the party
a few months back which led to several people (including the
cunt of a leader Nick Griffin) being arrested :) Brits are
cynical as fuck anyway, so any extremists who claim their
parties are now 'respectable & legitimate' are not taken too
seriously. Although I live in a white middle-class area so
what the fuck do I know about what England thinks.

yeah, i got the impression that Britain was suffering from a
lack of a clear alternative... shame about that... i'm

total smack... at which point i will say, "you know what?
you're probably right. i know shit from shine-o-lah."

The US actually has a surprisingly low amount of fascists.
We had a fascist party a few elections ago that didn't even
get 1% (I believe).

Oops, this isn't about us..

well, maybe not by party name... but one can certainly make
a case for a fact that many people with fascistic tendencies
fit in quite nicely with the present republican party...
certainly not all, but some...

We would like to think republicans are fascist, and they
come close, but aren't. I was thinking more like Pat
Buchanan.

republicans are often mistaken as fascists. they aren't.
they are just very conservative, right-leaning citizens. the
majority of republicans ARE anglo-saxon and that often leads
to a negative and incorrect assumption that they are racist.
believe it or not there are liberal republicans. they are
weird though.

>> Brits are cynical as fuck anyway

Is that 100% true?

offline cygnus from nowhere and everyplace on 2005-02-28 16:03 [#01516299]

the problem i have with conservative republicans is
that they favor security over liberty, and are willing to
give up their rights for security. i think that is bullshit
and makes them undeserving of american citizenship.

offline Rostasky from United States on 2005-02-28 16:04 [#01516300]

Sometimes conservative republicans want to take away liberty
just for the hell of it too, such as in gay marriage.

Well its the stereotype :) Compared to places like the US,
definitely true, not sure compared to Europe... certainly
our sense of humour is more cynical than most, I would say.

yup. that's 100% due to religious belief. and yes, it's
wrong. they are also anti-stemcell research for 100% no
reason at all. not even religious.

yes one could truly argue that republicans are fascists.
haha.

based whereas fascism is generally anti-religion...?

fascism

A. A system of government marked by centralization of
authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic
controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and
censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent
nationalism and racism.

B. A political philosophy or movement based on or
advocating such a system of government.

Oppressive, dictatorial control.

yes, that's the republican party in a nutshell, i'd say.

modern day republicans are only mis-led by the promises of
the administration. they are democratic at heart.

no, i don't think they are. i think at best they care more
about business and look at the mutilated, corporatized
version of democracy we have now and assume that's as good
as it gets.

most republicans believe that they are akin to the original
republicans such as thomas jefferson, whose goal was
basically to keep the government as small as possible. the
neo-republicans of today have used this guise of "tiny
government" to actually expand the government's powers to
the bloated dictatorial system we now have, where the
right-wing completely runs the show by themselves with
unlimited power.

so either they are so completely dumb that they really don't
understand the obvious differences between the
neo-republicans and the original ones (which i don't think
is the case) or they care so much about money and/or their
moralistic ivory towers that they look past the facts and
intentionally continue with their selfish goals.

ps - the democrats are total shit as well, but they have
virtually no power anyway.

offline Rostasky from United States on 2005-02-28 17:06 [#01516352]

Republicans are NOT fascists. I agree with cygnus. THey
have good intentions, but are dumb. The US is not under
dictatorial control either. Sure, the government does things
the people don't want, but if they go too far, the people
have the ability to intervene.

i was referring to those in political positions - they know
what they are doing. the masses who voted for bush are
dumb.

the government now tells people what they want, and even if
the democrats step in, bush's attitude is tough shit. and
he has the power to back it up.

i'm absolutely sure that cheney knows what he's doing. and
i'm 90% sure bush understands all of it. they are
successfully carrying out every aspect of the republicans'
wet dream. it just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter for
them. there's no doubt that they are doing all of the
things they do completely deliberately.
