Ok so im guessing people ahve heard them with thier "lets
try and be an emo Dntel" syle of music.
i was woudnering if people thought thier huge success was
gonna be good for electronic music, in the sense that it
will get people who dont normally listen to electronic stuff
into better eletronic stuff. kinda like the gateway drug of
IDM.

i think they''re good until they open their mouths and
start wailing their bollocks emo lyrics . seriously though
"their huge success" ?? i didnt think they were that main
stream,

i think that's already started happening.

i'd have seen Radiohead as having done that first though
tbh. Plus they already had a huge following behind them.
They've been far more effective at it.

they're about to go gold - 500,000 copies is huge for any
electronic act. i don't think their popularity is serving as
any kind of gateway to more IDMish acts. if anything it's
turning more people on to artists like: Le Tigre, Ladytron,
Junior Boys, Styrofoam or Lali Puna. Altough predominantly
electronic, their success is still based on the tunes being
classically structured, catchy-ass pop music.

It's possible that someone who normally hates or has no idea
what electronic music is, will like TPS and then get into
some other electronica, but it's highly unlikely if the only
thing keeping them there is the emo lyrics. The only thing I
don't like about the postal service is how many brainless
deuschbags now consider themselves to be all "cutting edge"
because they've heard what a synthesizer sounds like for 15
minutes. If anything, their success will only spur similar,
but less original and talented acts, that will most likely
sell even more copies. 'Tis the way of the pop world.

the Postal Service... nobody wins...

yeah, dntel's the producer/music maker and that gibbard guy
just sings.

i think they're pretty good, though i prefer dntel's solo
work. i think it's nice that dntel has found some success
through that collaboration, though i could care less about
gibbard's successes.

i have a friend who likes 'emo' (but thankfully doesnt buy
into the lifestyle) and he recommended i listen to them a
while back. i thought they where shit, and he was like, ooh
look how original these people are, they're really doing
something different, and its 'your kind of music' i can't
belive you don't like it.winge winge winge,,,,, ]]
its just shockingly shit electronica laiden with wingey emo
lyrics. get over it. emo is FUNNY because 'emo' is short for
emotional, and most of the words are just throwaway and
meangingless, or there because they rhyme...

FUCKcakes.
i like to bake, short cake
and bisucuits; n' make jam
oh how sad i am.
but i'm glad its bitchin'
in the kitchen'

gibbard is also singer/guitarist for Death Cab For Cutie, so
i think that contributes to their success.
