yay, finally got this today after having the ripped shitty
quality versions for a while.

altogether there's 5 main tracks, but 3 of them are split up
into sections meaning on the actual CD theres 12 tracks, not
5. Final length is 1:16:55, almost 80 mins, and what an 80
mins it is:

even though id hate to relate this to deloused.. id just say
theres more sonic experimentation on this one. not to say
they dont go mental sometimes, theres just more wonderful
electronic soundscapes floating around.

Obviously theres no set boundaries for these guys, they spaz
out spewing forth some vivid melodies, which are
surprisingly memorable within the randomness. Theres also
fuck load of different elements youll be able to hear after
a couple of listens, so itll stay in your CD player for a
while. Listen to Cygnus….vismund Cygnus; it starts off
with lovely lofi folky stuff, then suddenly twists into this
Spanish onslaught with fucker riffs and a great hybrid
groove that explodes all around you. But as well as the
conventional (ha) rock moments there are these almost
angelic breakdowns with curious electronics swirling
overhead, going on for as long as they want, then just die
off and its back to the song. The break in Cygnus goes on
for four minutes, not that it matters, with omar strumming
away passionately. If you listen to his solo effort,
something I also recommend, you’ll hear the parallels;
within mars volta its more majestic and lush sounding.

The whole album twinkles with obscurity, something I love,
and most mars fans will also admire. This, their second full
length studio album, really can explode in your face at some
points, as well as being dam right spooky, The widow being a
particular standout with cedrics usual ramblings of stuff im
sure only he understands. Yet at the same time they remain
lucid and able to whisk you away to whatever place your
mindset puts you. Great stuff, go buy it.
10/10

gimme your view.

i'd give it a 9/10 :)

but yes, it's awesome music, i prefer it to deloused in the
crematorium, mainly because the psychedelia comes more to
expression in these longer songs, i only have mp3 version
for now and that cassandra gemini is in one piece (31
minutes), doesn't get boring for a second, splendid stuff
from begining to end..only a begining of the years and two
fantastic albums (the other one being suspended animation),
looking great :D

I bought this yesterday, I haven't had time to listen to it
properly. I really, really don't understand this band but
they amaze me how totally off the wall their music is...

The stuff I've listened to sounds very interesting, I really
liked the brass stuff that seems to be in this one, theres
some extremely trippy moments. Looking forward to getting
into it.

I bought it yesterday too, and I've given it 3 rounds. I
haven't quite broken through all the layers yet, mainly
cause I've been listening to Dillinger Escape Plan all day.
For now, the verdict is: this is more coherent, but
De-Loused has more immediate hits (in a very loose
sense). I'm guessing 3 more listens will reveal the whole
picture. It's still a strong 9er, at this point though.
