Meddle is IMO Pink Floyds best with the two you mentioned a close second and third.
The track "Echoes" is a bona fide prog/ambient rock classic (Sigur Ros ripped it off big time on their TI kI DI DI DO track)
probably one of the most creative rock albums ever made

From http://www.pchs1.com/ecourses/pinkfloyd/atomheart.htm
"Atom Heart Mother was named after a headline the boys saw in the newspaper, about a woman who had had a nuclear pacemaker installed. Like many Floyd song titles, it is completely coincidental, and unrelated to the music."

Pink Floyd is getting so popular. Does this mean that musicians are going to have to learn to play their instruments again? Is musicianship the new punk?

Pink Floyd have always been popular and rightly so, I'd take them over the Sex Pistols any day of the week, apart from a few choice acts (The Pixies,Joy Division) all punk really achieved IMO is to make flares unfashonable, and the Stone Roses ended up bringing em back in again anyway.

Ummagumma, well I like it, it's a double album, first disc is live, great versions of Saucerful of Secrets and, my fave, Set the controls for the heart of the sun.
And then the other disc has solo work by each of the members of the band, the David Gilmoure's "Narrow way" is aces, in fact they all are, Roger Water's has the best track with a hazy, folky "Grantchester Meadows" (that ends with a twatting a bee) and the most absurd track "Several Species of small fury animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict" (which sounds like the title). It really is quite.. unique, in a good way.

Exactly, each member has one or two tracks of their own that they perform solo. It is interesting, it all sounds like Pink Floyd but, I guess, the tracks show the different aspects that each member brings to the whole sound of "the Floyd".

i played it the whole way through and i still don't like this album. the first song gave me a bit of a headache just like every other time i listened to it. i didn't like any of the other songs. the last song was kind of good and i would have enjoyed it more if not for the lousy breakfast sound recording.
so one song out of five that i enjoyed. imo, the title of this album is better than the music. :|

I've been listening to Pink Floyd for years, and have almost all the albums
In my treatise on Pink Floyd, I'm not going to mention that people generally like, The Wall, WYWH, DSOTM, Animals. I also won't bother with live albums and compilations that include no unique material.
I hope no-one minds this long post or is annoyed if I left something out, or said I hate their favourite song.
Let's go.
Lesser-Spotted Floyd:
A Momentary Lapse Of Reason: Summary: Well-known, not as bad as everyone says. But still not great. There are a couple of decent tracks on here, but the overall experience isn't amazing. This album always brings me back to the sunny bedroom of a lighthouse on a small French island, l'Isle de Groix where I first heard it.
A Saucerful Of Secrets: Summary: Quite good, quite short. This album is quite "Barretty", and is more similar to Piper At The Gates Of Dawn than their later material. All the songs are good, but the title track is challenging, as is "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun".
My favourite track is probably "Remember A Day".
Atom Heart Mother: Summary: Hmm. I don't really like the title track. And I don't like Alan's Breakfast, regardless of its Psychedelic quality.
I love the other 3 tracks, all are equally good. "If" is very simple, but beautiful for it. "Summer '68" always gets me singing along to the multi-tracked vocals, and the organ line. "Fat Old Sun" is relaxing.
Meddle: Summary: Relatively well-known, excellent stuff. A very good album, with one bum track. Cough, "Seamus", cough. Some of you mad techno-heads might want to hunt down the Meddle Limited Edition Trance remixes. Legend has it, they were remixed by Jimmy Cauty of KLF fame. Anyone who doesn't love "One Of These Days", "A Pillow Of Winds", "Echoes" and especially "San Tropez is lying through their teeth. "Seamus", no.

More: Summary: What a mixed bag! "Cirrus Minor", "Crying Song", "Green Is The Colour", "Cymbaline" are all spectacular examples of the "folksy" phase Floyd went through at this time, like the tracks off Atom Heart Mother.
"Ibiza Bar" and "The Nile Song" are also good, if rather un-Floydy.
The other songs are mainly instrumental and differ in quality.
Obscured By Clouds: Summary: Hardly known about, excellent stuff. This is a great album. Almost no-one I've met has heard of it, but I really like it. As with More, it's a film soundtrack, to an obscure art film. I really like "Childhood's End" but there are basically no bad tracks on this album. You have to get this, unless you hate all early Floyd. Seriously, well worth the money I spent on it.
Relics: Summary: Worth it, despite repetition. I already had all these songs except "Paintbox", "Julia Dream" and "Careful With That Axe, Eugene", but I bought the album anyway, because these songs are so cool, especially the first two, which are like "Cymbaline" et al, in my book.
The Division Bell: Summary: Better than Momentary Lapse. A lot better. LOT.
Pink Floyd were definitely far better with Waters, but this is a good album even without him. Some of these songs had me humming them for quite a while after. Plus there's the whole Publius Enigma mystery if you're into that sort of thing. There are websites devoted to it. I'm listening through the album again now, and it really is unique, as a concept and as an album.
The Final Cut: Summary: Waters' swan song, and better than They say.
One of the most controversial albums among Floyd fans, with some believing it to be the second coming, and others regarding it as fecal matter.
I'm closer to the former. Its intriguing semi-political message is relayed similarly to The Wall, semi-autobiographically from Waters' viewpoint. He is dealing with his father's death, and the society of post-war Britain,

The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn: Summary: You can practically smell the drugs... Well. Some people hate this album. Some love it. I think I love it, but man it's strange. Just listen to "Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk" if you don't believe me. Still, don't dismiss it out of hand. It's Barrett at his best.
Ummagumma: Summary: Ehh... The first CD consists of live versions of some early Floyd songs.
The second CD is very odd. It is generally regarded as one of the most self-indulgent Pink Floyd albums. Each member of the band composed several pieces for it. I like "Grantchester Meadows". The rest I wouldn't mind losing. I bought this album for the post, I'll admit it!
I hope that was of some use to someone. It kept me from my Java project for another hour, so that's gotta be good. Or something.
