You know... I tried starting a room in slsk for this kinda
shit, and nobody ever shows up. Not like I didn't spam it
enough.

Fine. Here.

Find Samples in Google.

don't think i have not tried google , i only chance upon
crappy dead link sites and pay sites... there must be a
compendium of decent hits ripped of vinyls and other sound
sources..

soulseek really is a good spot
analoguesamples has been a favourite for a long time,
although I am not sure how free their samples are anymore

I find one of the best sources for drum sounds is my own
record collection, I used to buy commercial discs too but to
be honest with you I find less is more with samples
nowadays, otherwise I spend too much time editing, archiving
them etc and not enough time actually using them

the onlyproblem i have is when you record a beat of a
cd/vinyl and try to extract the seperate hits you often get
bits of hat thrown in when you dont want it... any tips for
"clean" extrcation?

Well if you want a kick drum say you can use a low pass
filter to get rid of the high hat, if this has made your
kick too dull sounding then use a harmonizer plug in or
something similar to put the "zest" back into it.
This will actually make your sample more unique sounding as
well.
The real trick is finding isolated sounds on your records
though, there will be the odd occasion when the sound you
want plays in isolation, without wanting to state the
obvious check the start, end and any breaks on your record
for these although you won't always get them of course.
