On the Druqks tracks, or are they sampled from someone
else?

Just wondering.

Yea, thanks- I fugure it has to be a programmed Piano that
Richard was noodling around with but I've never read
anywhere for sure.

I figured someone here might know for sure.

I was under the impression that they were played by Richard
on a prepared piano.

A prepared piano is a piano that has had its sound altered
by placing objects (preparations) between or on the strings.

I definitely remember him talking about his midi-controlled
piano in some interview. Might be bullshit, but that's what
I imagine the Druqks stuff was made on

Thanks isnieZot, i'd wondered occasionally what that meant
for a little while now. For some reason I don't think the
pianos on druqks are sampled from elsewhere. I always
imagined they were played, i don't recall the parts being
exactly complex..

someone once linked an article on the warp webpage saying
that it was one of those midi-controlled piano thins.. no
samples, just midi playing the notes. Aphex doesn't play the
piano apparently...

i think it's samples from a prepared piano, like the violin
on i care... that he played and sampled

Well from my experience Avril 14th as it appears on Drukqs
is completely impossible to play without using your
penis/foot/3rd hand/absurdly long finger, and since you can
hear key pressing noises I'm sure it's not samples,
therefore I subscribe to the midi controlled piano school of
though.

to play piano...

im pretty sure that's sampled too, i even hear a sampled
metronome, but maybe that's the pressing of the keys since
it stops at points
on the other piano tracks you dont hear these specific
noises you hear on avril 14th

Yeah I can play it too, but there were a couple of chords
which were way out of concievable hand range so I had to
change them and they don't sound perfect

you mean those chords on the end?

you just have to play the lower part of the right hand with
the left.

no offense intended, but you are probably playing it wrong.
I don't claim to be great at piano, but I've been playing
for almost 3 years and I have a knack for being able to
listen to music and then transcribe it to the keys, and
avril has sections where there are 3 parts being played
independently of one another... and for that you'd need to
be extremely good at piano, or have a 3rd hand. It's not the
type of song a beginner can teach himself and be 100%
correct on for the most part. ;)

Zephyr Twin, you're right. In fact, that piece sounds (and
is) very simple-but I could never seem to work it out on
piano perfectly (unlike some of the other tracks.) Then I
realised there was more then two parts.

btw, I find it really strange that Aphex Twin has been
making electronic music with synthesizers for years now but
claims he can't play the piano. I don't really get it.

I reckon the chordy bit at around 1.25 has bits where you
are pressing keys too far apart, and around 1.40 the third
hand is playing.

checking...

...

no, as I said.. you have to use the left hand to play parts
the right hand would normally do.

Okay, I also think that at around 0.50 the right hand riff
is played in two octaves at once with a left hand part as
well

well.. I can reach it...

I can't play it GOOD, mind you, since I am self-taught, but
I CAN play it, which means someone more accomplished than me
can play it just fine.

but I'll run it by someone I know who's had 15 years of
playing classical music, and who's got the best ears of
anyone I know, and see what he thinks of what that sounds
like...

mainly what I was getting at is that there are certain parts
that even if you are playing them properly, there is a part
one octave higher (or two or even three, not sure how many
octaves the jump is, but I am certain I can hear it) than
the right hand part that is an exact mirror (or close to it)
that you are missing, so technically you aren't playing all
of it if you are getting by using only two hands.
