Have you ever bothered to listen to anything outside of
Warp/Snares?

I meant so called 'IDM' from other sources. I am still
finding new stuff even now that I have missed in the past.
Some of the new albums have not been all that amazing as far
as my opinion goes, but there is and will always be quality
available if you look for it.

While I liked Analord 10 and Empty The Bones of you, i agree
the rest of the list is pretty shabby there.

Some noteworthy albums you might want to check out:

Tipper- Surrounded
Ulrich Schnauss- A Strangely Isolated Place
Leafcutter John- The Housebound Spirit
Helios- Unomia

that's normal : )
i felt like this too.

there are thousands of bands better than Squarepusher,
Autechre & co.... millions of bands better than Boards of
Canada... dozens of millions of bands better than Venetian
Snares... sure, there is good stuff in idm, but it would be
too bad to focalize on it and miss out on lots of other
great music just to have, for example, the complete
collection of all Aphex Twin releases. besides i often feel
like idm is fairly easy to make, sometimes "professional"
idm doesn't sound as good as "amateur" idm made by the
people of this board for example.
just my opinion.

i'm still interested in Biosphere for example though...
(don't know if it's classified in IDM, but i can't say i
really care)

(PS: i'm much, much more interested in Beck's new album than
in Boards of Canada's possible new one... ; P by the way i
could sell my ("limited" edition) copy of Geogaddi. and give
away my copy of Higgins Glue Funk fonjxcvonf燫?? (i
used the jewel case to replace one of my other CDs who had a
broken one).)

Squarepusher is the IDM artist i still enjoy the most now
that i've been quite out of this genre for some time now.

it might just be that the problem lies with you and
not with the artists creating the music.

empty the bones of oyu is fantastic
I love the analords
snares is better each day
ultravisitor was very nice, but more than that, the 3" and
venus n17 were absloultely excellent

so far the last autechre I know for real is draft and it was
pure genious for me

apart fromt hat, I am getting into team doyobi which I love,
as much as brothomstates, mr76ix, ooo...

idm is doing well I think
each year cannot be a revolution

there is only one 1789

ah yes.. 1789.. the year that snares released his first 12
albums.

Oh touché.

Music should be the soundtrack to your life, or something,
and maybe the music's not appropriate for you in this
section, or something, so maybe, some sweeping strings, or
something more uptempo, depending on what's, you know,
"happening".

I can't believe you just thought you had to explain that.

because you don't like some music could be the point where
you have to get off your ass and look for something
different instead of thinking up some kind of manifesto in
which you pronounce a hardly existing genre dead.

wall.

I know, but... I felt... that... I had to write something.
But what you say is right. Harsh, but right.

In summary:

There is no "IDM", therefore how can it be dead?

Listen to all sorts of music not just a few artists.

offline Combo from Sex on 2005-02-19 07:43 [#01504501]

you try to change the topic ; it's not about my life ; it's
about all those releases which are disapointing ! the
analords are not very good.... untilted is not what people
expected from such a band as autechre... ultravisitor had 3
great tracks and 10 fillers, venus n°17 was ok (i admit
toundra 4 is awesome though) but not mindblowing ; snares is
making the same thing over and over again ; chris clark
sounds amateurish ; plaid is making crap

well ok those releases can be enjoyable but it's not what i
expected from those artists ; they ran out of new ideas
imo.

everything would be OK for me if the new autechre was great
; i would forget about analord and that... but it seems it
is NOT good so i'm so disappointed i'd like to cut one of my
ear like van gogh

I agree with you apart from boards of canada but that is
your opinion. But i generally think there are alot more
interestig things about than most of the stuff around at the
moment.

Anyway combo, what is wrong with boc remixing beck?? Aphex
remixed beck. So what??? Probably make for a better tune
anyway.

"it's not what i expected from those artists ;
they ran out of new ideas "

one simple rule: you only get dissappointed by someone if
you expect something = E.G. if "untitled" [which You haven't
heard yet, just leaks] will not be "Combo's favourite album"
it means they're boring and ran out of ideas, right?

one piece of advice: lock your warp-like cds in a safe place
for a month or so, listen to something else

good luck

the new ae isn't out yet.

and no, I don't think it'll be groundbreaking. I really
don't care whether it'll be groundbreaking, really. just
some interesting music that I'll enjoy, would be nice.

and it is about "your life" - you don't like them, which is
fine, but that's just your opinion.

besides, you were the one starting with the sweeping
generalisations about Eye Dee Emm.

the problem is that we expect far too much from our
favourite artists... history will NEVER repeat itself. why
cant people just enjoy analords, etc. for what they ARE. and
some of it is really nice and unique listening you know? its
STILL rdj making that music and were lucky enough to live in
a time to anticipate and be the first to hear such music. be
thankful at the fucking least... you could live in africa.
