You loose out on so much of the organic sublty of the music
when it's recorded. It almost makes me sick to listen to
that perversion... vinyl... blech!

I ALWAYS hire the group to come and play live in my
livingroom if I want to listen to music. Sure it's a bit of
a hastle, but I'm willing to sacrifice convinience for my
high auditory standards.

If you cared that much you would use a purpose built
auditorium and not your livering room you acoustically
challenged dimwit.

the only thing good about vinyl is the artwork is bigger.

offline thecrimsonguard from ∞ (United States) on 2005-02-17 13:45 [#01502781]

vinyl just cuz. I like the fact it sounds better, the
artwork is bigger, your friends (sans turntable) will never
ask to borrow it, and it almost forces me to sit and listen
to an entire track instead of hitting the skip button.

however it is bulky once you've got a lot.

other than that i love it for home listening, and if i want
it in my car i just record it to CD-R. so i get the best of
both worlds.

Unless you have a multi-thousand dollar set-up and know what
you are doing, you are fooling yourself if you think vinyl
sounds better. It may sound better on your system, because
the frequency response is more forgiving (narrower), and the
harmonics are skewed to the lower frequencies and sound
'warmer' but that's just because you're an ignorant
shit-eater.

Hmm yes, because preference is always deeply routed in
science isn't it.

mp3 96kbps is the best.

except for that analog has a full wave length and digital is
limited to sections of the wave length due to size available
on cds.

I don't have a record player, but I think I like vinyl more
because of the packaging. Kind of shallow, I know. I can't
be bothered to manipulate physical things now, anyway.

offline godataloss from Cleveland (United States) on 2005-02-18 14:25 [#01503747]

Yes, but the fidelity of %99.999999999999999 percent of
vinyl systems is incapable of reproducing the "full wave"
form- on these systems, a $50 cd player is going to sound
better than a $1000 turntable.

but you can't hear that. so unless you are buying the music
to create some bizarre soundwave frequency library, it
doesn't matter.

offline ecnadniarb on 2005-02-18 14:27 [#01503751]

Regardless of fidelity etc, the dynamics of the sound
produced are totally different, fuck waveform reproduction,
SNR etc etc...I'd judge preference on what it sounds like to
my ears not to some technical analysis.

I totally agree with you- the ears rule.
My point was (in deference to the thread) that only a
shit-eater would think that vinyl was better.
