I had an idea. If you have a total mental block or your
music is going shitty then do this:

Stop working on the track. Now, every time you get and idea
for the track, write it down. Do this for a month, then at
the end of the month you'll have a glorious list of ideas
for your track.

I'm doing this at the moment and I feel it's going to work.

well if it's a tune, then write down the notes. if it's a
technique then write down what you would do with the knobs.
or even just write down what the idea is like in your head
"fade out so and so, bring in 3rd drum set, apply fx for a
few seconds" kinda thing

Holy shit, ideas you say? Writing? This is too
much for me to handle, man.

I once tried writing my ideas down.

I ended up with a cheesy symphony that I didn't have a
symphony orchestra to arrange it for... I plotted it in
midi, and it was some grand stuff with a funky bassline and
microbeats. it sounded like crap, though.

yeah i could never write down, 'filter drums through
bandpass, delay the snare then twist the ohter knob weeeee'
i just work and then just get loads of sounds. then just
mash them all up and make a song

I just realized the thread title says "musing making," not
music making.

To make a good bunch of songs you have to either not work at
all and let the spirits of dead circus clowns do the work,
or you have to work like a bastard for a year. Compromise
leads to mediocrity.

i find that if an idea is that good, it will stick with you,
and you won't need to write it down. if you can't remember
it, it was probably shit anyway
