just off the top of my head here are some free little
programs to help the budding computer musician/ sonic
terrorist/ misfit recluse. i don't know the links but just
do a search; if you have more that i haven't put up, just
stretch the thread

coagula: image to sound program as used on windowlicker
analog x vocoder/say it/ scratchit: low quality but eclectic
progs from yet more people that can't spell ANALOGUE
drumsyn: multioscilator drum synthesiser with okay models of
classic sounds and scope to make mad stuff
the drums pro: slightly lacking but easy to edit drum
programming for yor midi cos it displays 64 beats at once (i
know any sequencer can do this but for the enthusiast it is
handy to learn with)
gram 32: the music to graphic program used in the
windowlicker faq
samplenet.co.uk : not a program but a copyright free wav.
library to help yo'all

i know a lot of you are aware of most of this stuff but
hopefully it will help some of you out

Don't forget Buzz from www.buzzmachines.com. Put a drumloop
in the granular synth, tweak it and: tada you sound (more or
less) like Autechre! Anyway, it's by far my favourite free
audioprogram

I started out with trackers in the early 90's, Noisetracker
2.0 on A500 and some others. I wish Buzz had the traditional
piano-roll type interface though. Trackers feel a bit
awkward after some 10 years of sequencing with a piano-roll
window.

I love Trackers somehow it gives me a inspiring feeling. And
you can do it all by just using the keyboard which is a big
plus for me. My first tracker was called Screamtracker and
the samples were all 11Khz/8bit. But I consider Buzz to be
very modern, just different...
