I know nothing about monitors. I've never had monitors.

A shop has these on sale.

nEar 06

anyone got any experience/referances?

I'm not yet sure if I NEED monitors, nor if I'm buying
monitors, but I'm starting to think about thinking about it.

you should definetly consider it! i have studiophile bx8's
actives (actives- meaning they have a built in amplifiers),
my first pair of monitors that i bought last summer. i'm
very happy with them, they were cheap too.

you need monitors if you want accurate flat frequency
response, hi-fi speakers only exaggerate it, fuck with the
EQ and force it to sound better. (that's why song mixes
usually turn out shit with a hi-fi system reference).

hear music like it's meant to be heard. monitors are
essential if you are a music maker and want your mixes to
sound good on all systems. and ofcourse for your own music
listening pleasure they're awesome. they give you sound that
is big (with actives), clear and accurate. i couldn't go
back to hi-fi. no chance.

if you have lots of cash consider buying Mackie HR824.
haven't heard them myself yet. but they are constantly being
recommended on the interweb, so they must be good :) i've
also heard nothing but good about genelics (expensive!)

i'm no expert, but for low price+quality consider the bx8s.
check the m-audio website.

thanks!

yeah, I already knew about the hifi-speakers coloring the
sound, which is why I do a bit of mixing with my headphones
(ultrasone hfi 650), which are pretty good for representing
sound the way it is.. (even though I know mixing with
headphones isn't recommended...)

the thing is that I have a thousand more things on my "to
buy" list, so it may be a while before I buy anything if
it's not on sale, so I was more or less looking for
experiences with these particular ones, but I can't seem to
find any real hands-on info on them (by people I trust), in
a way, which means I'll probably not get them...

Yeah, I've heard of the Mackies too, and people generally
love them, so I'm watching out for them on sale too!
