I was just wondering what you all thought his best was. "Selected Ambient Works Vol. II" is not only my favorite album of his, but my favorite album of everybody's. Yet, as far as his more conventional music goes, I would have to say that his "Hangable Auto Bulb" albums are my favorite. They can hardly be found anywhere, but they are more than worth the trouble of looking. My opinion may change over time, but for mow, that's where I stand.

Oh, I have all of that, except I had to pirate the "Hangable Auto Bulb"s. I've been listening to the man for years and have a more extensive collection of the man's music than just about anybody in here (without MP3's). I can say that comfortably. God bless Austin.
Anyway, I was just saying that those are, to me, his best albums. "SAW II" is his biggest step forward out of anything he's ever made, and that's saying a lot. It is the most perfect music I have come across to this day. I tend to favor the "Hangable Auto Bulb" EP's more than his other albums, because they are so condensed and intricate, as well as beautiful. If I were to rate my favorite RDJ album by which has the most of my favorite songs, they would be it. "Arched Maid via RDJ", "Custodian Discount", "Everyday", Outside (Kickass Violin Solo)", etc. Outside of his ambience, "Hangable Auto Bulb" appeals to me the most. I wonder why it didn't get more copies printed or recognition. Nevertheless, I stand on that opinion.

Yeah, check out the info on 'Outside' right here.
Compare the sample to your copy and verify it's the same. (And RJ Jackson could do this as well).

I hate to be populist, but I say Boy/Girl is his best track. I haven't heard the Hangable Auto Bulbs though, so maybe a download session is in order once I get my flat-rate connection this weekend. As for the best album, I'd agree with SAWII.

I regard "Richard D. James' Album: Aphex Twin" as THE masterpiece. Never heard him that good. (By the way: I only have one song from Hangable Autobulb. It's good, but not better than RDJ Album, in my mind.)

Hangable Auto Bulb to me is less cluttered and drill'n'bas than RDJ Album. It's this really well produced, organized, and fluent music that not enough of his fans have heard. It's hard to pick a best song for me. I'd have to name them in catagories, like Most Beautiful, Most Chaotic, or Most Diverse. Of course, he's made so much music, found over, under, and beneath things, it's nearly impossible to say which is the best in any catagory, considering there's just so much of the shit. I had heard a rumor once, that he keeps all of his "good" music for himself. Like, the music he really cherishes is sitting in some room at that big fucking bank he lives in. I hope he croaks before I do, so we can all raid his house and take all of that badass music that he's not giving us. I also hope he and Chris make that feature film, before his lazy ass goes into a coma.

I think the GAK album is a bit underrated. I'm sure he didn't put his best in it, but although the structures of the songs are very basic, it's a cool ep. To tell what his "best" is, is very hard. I started with "Come To Daddy", therefore I was really into his sick beats at this time. When I started to go further I really loved "I Care..." "Hangable 2" is also great, especially "Every Day". Does this woman (I know, it's Richard, that's for sure) say: "Get me another tie, get me another shirt, get me another wooden"? That would be sick, dude...

I myself have always wondered what the hell that little girl's husband is telling her to get. It must be some British lingo slang stuff. I'm not 100% sure that's him. I mean if he records his mother, which he's done numerous times, nothing would stop him from finding some little girl and telling her "Talk into this."

Yea, but the voice is almost similar to "Weakling Child", I think. Right, that part with her "husband"... I don't get any of these phrases. Aren't there any transcriptions of his spoken word tracks?
Oh, another thing. Does anybody know if this awesome "Windowlicker" hip hop remix (the mix at the beginning of the music video, where those guys heavily "argue") is available anywhere?

"Arched Maid via RDJ" is off of the Hangable Auto Bulb a EP's. As I was saying, they are a couple of his most awesome and unavailable works. That song has so much gut-wrenching emotion, it makes you wonder why everyone doesn't love him. I, for one, love that fucking man. If I ever have a wife, I'll buy his cum, so I can make little Richard D. James babies.

richard d james. An unsung hero in the music realm. i discovered him purely by a single review in Q. i took the chance of buying selected ambient works 1. what an album. surely some of his more ambient work is among his best. i have heard each track a million times yet never get bored . an emotion captured by the essence of aphex twin is indesrcibable. pure magic. try listening after five pints with all lights off lying on your back. true genius.

For me, Selected Ambient Works Vol. II is my universal music. I can clean house, fall asleep, wake up, eat, shit, and dream to that album. An especially good use of it is when I get out of a party, and I just don't want to hear any more bumping, bassy, and obnoxious music. Basically, SAW II complements just about any action I partake in. It makes me wish we had huge speakers set all over town, flooding it throughout. I guess I'll have to start writing my senator. For me, nothing compares to that album. It's closer to perfection than anything I have ever listened to, and believe, I've tried, and I still try, to find something that even equals it's magnificence, better yet surpasses it. I'm sure many of you would beg to differ, but those of you who agree undoubtedly feel strongly about it.
The Richard D. James album, on the other, is his most concentrated album. If he had wanted to just make a normal album out of that, it could have been two hours long, maybe more. Those who feel that it is his best indeed have room for arguement.
