questions i am hoping you guys can answer:

does Aphex Twin REALLY dislike Autechre or does he make up
bullshit(like he usually does) to confuse the journalists?

same thing w/Squarepusher...Richard D states in an interview
that Tom Jenkinwhateverthefuck hates Autechre as well. does
he really and WHY

In my opinion Autechre is a step above both AFX and
Squarepusher. So I agree, I think theyre jealous. Autechre
do seem to be a little pompous sometimes though.

no i think he does like Autechre... maybe not their music,
but he likes sean and rob....

in the recent interview he was talking about emailing one of
them to share a joke about jean-micheal-jarre... so i guess
they must be mates...

i rekon SQP is ok with them too.

autechre are maybe better than redj but he has done so many
different things with music... autechre are more in one
single style and the ve reached perfection on it... afx is
not that perfect but feelings get much further with his
music...

squarepusher is a genious too... but maybe i dont like it
that much... i dont know why, dont misanderstand me, i love
SP but not as much as aphex or AE..
i didnt know that afx had said anything about not liking
ae... i dont believe that...

i was reading somewhere in an interview with rdj that
aphex-releases mainly finance warp-records. and that he
actually doesn't appreciate all other artists on that label.
with the exception of squarepusher. whith whom he will start
a rephlex sub-label i think.

but nevermind richard's opinion on other warp artists : LFO
and autechre were/are cool. but it's also true that warp
quality isn't anymore what it was before they signed vincent
gallo ;-)

i liek grinspoon more than all of them at the moment

but i LOVE tri repeatea lately, it has a SAW2 like quality
about it to me. its harsh and beautiful, usually easy to
pull off but they do it real well...

RE: andreas - wasn't that squarepusher who had the "actual"
problem - where rich didn't really care about what other
artists were on WARP. ???

Where Tom thought the only other thing apart from afx
worthwhile listening to was early LFO ?

Dunno, I think Ae and AFX are perhaps too different to
compare, too different an approach to music ? Currently prob
prefer Ae

i prefer autechre as well. every album is different, you
never get bored.

but what about their question-session on warprecords.com?
are they really that cheesy and pseudo-humoristic or were
they just toying with us?

ill start this post of by saying "damnit"

i find it very funny that we can ask the question "who is
better" about 3 totally and completely different artists.
they each have different things to offer. different
interpretations of sounds. different inspirations im sure.
some offer more innovation maybe. some offer more fun.
some offer more deepness. some offer more strangeness. but
who can say who is best all around. what is best to one
person isnt what is best to another. its stupid. can all
the comparison crap between theres 3 groups. i read a new
post everyday on it.

offline john is fast from sacramento (United States) on 2002-02-09 13:17 [#00083944]

and then i say this.. when we start asking if they get
along as friends it just makes me wonder how freaking bored
we are to turn our rephlex and warp musicians into a soap
opera. its just music. enjoy it. i could give less of a
crap if they play tenniss together and celebrate each others
mothers birthdays.

ofcourse it's just opinions we see here, john. i happen to
prefer ae and others probably prefer britney. who's to say
which is the better artist? no one here presumes to know who
is best, i think.
btw i don't think the topic starter wanted a comparison, if
you read the topic closely.

oh boy here we go again...
while there's certainly common ground each of the artists
are vastly different
Ae-is cold, precise (except perhaps Confield) machine like,
elusive, and vvserious and brilliant..
RDJ-unpredictable, spontaneous, warm, silly, psychedelic,
and brilliant
TJ-technically brilliant, virtuoso player, harsh and wild,
sounds are very warm and real...
really on a spectrum the sounds goes from
Ae--------------Afx------------------SP
with RDJ capable of producing tracks as good as Ae and SP in
the styles these two specialize in
The closest RDJ's sound comes to Ae is the early tracks on
ICBYD, which IMHO are better than most of the early to mid
Ae if only because they sound more..well human and
emotional
btw a lot of the busier tracks on Drukqs actually sound a
bit like early Bogdan

RDJ doesn't hate squarepusher. If he said Tom
Jenkinwhatever thefuckhisnameis he was probably joking,
especially since all he would have had to say was 'son'.

RDJ destroys Tom Jenkinson, except in drum manipulation
skills. When Squarepusher goes all out, its just something
that I've never seen RDJ be able to do technically.

I'm sorry, but i just find Autechre too cold and not human
enough.
Richard's work (and Tom's to a lesser extent) is brimming
over with his personality.
Maybe my attention span is getting shorter as i get older,
but i just lose patience with Autechre most of the time.

Yeah, he probably means Bogdan R. I never liked him for a
long time, but recently I heard Boku Mo Wakaran (first LP I
think) and I love it. I then downloaded My Love I Love,
which I also love, but it's quite the new direction (few
beats, accoardians, flutes, Bogdan singing cheesy love
lyrics). I can't tell if he's serious or not, but I dig it
eiher way.

"In my opinion Autechre is a step above both AFX and
Squarepusher." -Taoist, not to hate on you man, but that's a
bit of an ambiguous statement. A "step above", doesn't
really signify much or say anything if you don't say why you
think so. Of course it's all opinion, but these are all
quite respected musicians. And well, heh I just think it's
unfair to judge something as subjective as this and try to
make a competition out of "who makes better music than the
other guy".

I enjoy all three artists, they offer a new take on sound
that no one else can provide in quite the same way, and I
picture them in their own arenas. There is so much other
terrific (and crap) music being produced, it really
shouldn't be about proving who is better than the next guy,
it should just be about the music.

cheers

i think the main difference between autechre and aphex is
that aphex has many different atmospheres in his tracks,
autechre usually has one great atmosphere in one track (for
example:Garbagemx36 is about 14 minutes long and it doesn't
change to a totally other style, but this track is fucking
great). aphex (like in ziggomatic 17) has about 17 different
parts and if you listen very good you can count. i like
autechre more than aphex. aphex has more different styles in
one track...but i think autechre can create more emotional
tracks as well too (krib, second scepe, inhake 2 and corc
for example) and i think you need more to get into autechre
(Squarepusher, u-Ziq, Boards of Canada and Plaid are also
great) but
of course thats just my opinion.

nice twist flea :)

I suggest pretty much anything off Appetite for
Disctruction.

Perhaps of note are:

Appetite for Disctruction
AM KM34
A Bottle, A Box and a Mic
Mind The Gap

This is just off the top of my head ... there is so much
more :)

've only listened to 'Vice Versa' via Real Player [still
sounds fuckin' A] .. 'Additional Productions' aint bad
either.

and afx a bit more, but the batch of mu-ziq recordings I've
heard have been awesome :)
