oh, and they keyboard version is by far the best perfomance
synth Ive encountered. The ability to define the lay out,
and have 15 different settings for the 8 knobs... gives you
so much flexibility.

I recently played on a few songs at my friends cd release
party, and I set up the nord so that only the functions I
needed , were on the front panel. It was so nice.

Id love to have a live setup of 4 g2 keyboards... total
hands on control

yes but nord lead 2x is just a bit cooler

I disagree. Why do you think so?

I'm actually thinking of making a free acid album all on the
G2 Demo and upload it somewhere. Wonder if Fah's new acid
netlabel is a good place.....

but seriously: it's just the sound i'm looking for i think
i'm not much into this modular stuff (yet?)

Synthedit's free and you can make your own VSTs from it.

The sound of the modular completely blows away the sound of
the lead IMHO. I think the lead sounds cold and thin.

Plus you have room to grow once you get bored of the
architecture and routing.

So far I have not been impressed with synthedit plugs. They
all have a characteristic sound I don't like, and they're
not usually very creative.

But post a dll and surprise me. I'm always open to new
ideas.

I'm finding myself working more inside Synthedit now that
outside it.

Experiment. I agree that the VCO -> VCF -> VCA routing
sounds dull, but that's not the point of SE. I made a filter
that sounds half way between a BPF and a flanger by working
with it electronically (for a filter you usually take an
op-amp for cutoff and use feedback to make the resonance).
Due to the CPU speed this made a small delay meaning I got a
flanging effect. Add some more delay and it was complete.

This is what you have to do! Just try making stuff that
shouldn't work, like using sequencers as oscillators or
chaining 10 oscillators together, etc.

hm, and i suppose there is nothing lead can do that g2
can't?

except maybe sound different?

totally.

the G2 comes with patches that copy the NL2/NL3
architecture.

even better case for the g2 then.... you use software with
it! makes the transition smoother :)

synthedit sounds tinny and artificial
its filters aren't coded well enough

then don't use its filters, build your own in C++ or using
stranger modules in synthedit. Download some homebrew
modules. Theres several ways of getting round that.

ill just have to try one out (not just the software demo)

i decided on lead only on the first sample here:

i think this modular stuff is not for me
as a guitarist i hated setting up my stuff, i won't enjoy
making patches

Talking of hardware synths with a software aspect to them,
has anyone had a go with that Virus that has a VST component
to it? Any good?

I'm not looking to get one, just interested in the idea.

yea i read wrong, it's just the g2x that they will stop
producing

the wave is like a continuation of the lead though, with one
oscillator being able to be any wave file instead of just an
oscillator tone

alright, the samples of the g2 here sound amazing

when comparing the sound of the lead and the g2 on that site
it has to be taken into account though that the samples of
the g2 are made by really good musicians and the samples of
the lead are just the onboard demo's (there's the misc
tracks as well though)

but, right now the sound i think i want is that of the lead

so what i want to know from you guys is:
does g2 emulate the sound of the lead pretty well? maybe
even the thinness of that sound
and
does it offer an interface that emulates that of the lead
pretty well? like how you'd modify the oscillators and such
for instance. because if i'd get an g2(x) i would want to
start out playing it like a lead

it's important for me to know because the nord g2x costs
another wopping 700 euros more, and is therefor over the
mummiefunds (it's a gift my mom saved up on as an incentive
for me to finish my studies, aw)

btw: the shop has its powercable for the lead g2 missing for
a week now, but will have it next week

lol @ work

i kinda know the answers myself: it's just another synth
that can do the same, but sounds better
nord lead can hold samples though

so im not sure yet

isn't it strange g2 doesn't have a digital i/o btw?

article on g2

(nice lead 2x samples: LAZY_TITLE, i like the All Even
Harmonics best)

I've uploaded a load of patches on to my Twango page. Most of them are
acid-based song patches, some are techniques, others are
just random. Have fun with them. If you "remix" some of
them, please email them/host them back to me so I can listen
and play around with them again!

Twango's proving to be quite damn useful as a host for
files.

Futureimage-

I just downloaded the Mac demo to try these out. For some
reason, none of these patches are working on my machine.
It's shooting my CPU load over 125% on each of them

I'm running a MacIntel 2.33 GHz Core2Duo with 2GB ram. I
dont think this should be happening, unless this demo is not
universal binary.

Haven't a clue why that's happening, I know the CPU load is
pretty high when the G2s running but it's still workable and
I'm using a shite PC with about 60 processes running in the
background...

Have you tried changing the Audio config in G2? Change the
frequency down to 44100 Hz if it isn't already. If it is, I
haven't got a clue WTF's going on.

I think its because the demo is purposefully prone to
spiking. That and in OSX it's not running natively.

hmm, well if it's any consolation I'll be recording most of
these patches as tracks and uploading them somewhere for
free probably.

Since this is a snyth thread, I have to mention that the
Zebra 2 VA is fucking astonishing.

i think the nord lead sounds warmer than the modular
just judging from the samples.
