i was wondering: if you hear clipping with just a few instruments, does that automatically mean the clipping is there with even more instruments? or can the frequencies push themselves out of the way so it doesnt happen. (sometimes you hear the clipping only in the the less filled parts)

more instruments might hide the presence of clipping but I don't think it could make it go away

you can try the sonic foundry clipped peak trimmer if you can find it... I don't know if it's still sonic foundry's or if sony has taken that one over too...
I think clipped sounds will peak out of your mix anyway, but if you use some de-essing eq, you can probably dampen it (at expense of some high frequencies)...

clipping: xmd5a 3:18 - 3:21 (in my mp3's at least) it's only a problem if you hear it, and you hear it on the soft parts especially

as far as i know if you add a (let's say) sine wave to another one that has the same length but opposite phase you get silence... so basically you have 1/2 chances to make the clip disappear by adding an instrument. no, i don't believe it.
