i love this album, very diverse, mixture of all possible
sounds you can imagine, and packaged into sort of laidback
fun music.

samples

some comments :)

"Original, enthusiastic, and intelligent. A stunning
talent"
- TimeOut NY
"A unique collection of beats, samples, and voice. Evocative
and wildly creative."
- AllMusic Guide
"Different from anything you or your friends have."
- Transworld Skateboarding

i totally agree with all three. just awesome!

im pretty new with solex, the only other album i've heard so
far is Solex Vs. The Hitmeister and i must say i like this
last one much better. better ideas, and sort of better
musically as well..check out those samples, they give you a
pretty good idea..

I think it's the least interesting of her albums. it sounds
too.. clean. I like her earlier albums more because you can
hear the samples used, on this last album the "seemlessness"
makes it all sound a bit bland. it loses the thing that
makes it sound distinct from a "normal" band, I think.

that said, "take that gum out!" is an excellent song.

that sounds a bit too negative - she still sounds very
distinctive on this last album, she really does her own
thing and does what she likes.

in the Netherlands, another Dutch artist calling himself
Spinvis has been hyped the last few years - he uses a lot of
samples and sings himself too, although in Dutch.

he writes good lyrics but I think his singing is absolutely
atrocious.

I bring him up because it's always frustrating for me to see
how much attention he gets while Solex gets little attention
at all in the Dutch press. I mean, she's no great singer
either but she makes it work.. and I think her songs are
generally better, more inventive.

so, um, shall i listen to mr. spinvis? maybe you could
recommend one of his songs you like the most?

as for spinvis vs. solex - no competition when it comes to
worldwide success. maybe he should do an album i english as
well then..

no, you shouldn't listen to spinvis, I think.

if anything, try to find a song called "voor ik vergeet"
(which roughly translates as "before I forget"). his singing
really is awful, though.

the links on his recordlabel's site don't seem to work.

spinvis has little to no success outside of the Netherlands,
but on the other hand as far as I can see Solex doesn't have
as much success in the Netherlands, which I do think is a
shame.

good time..travelling a lot not doing much..some people are
awesome.

I think she's better known than Kettel. although it is about
the same group of people, I think.

funny thing about Spinvis is that maybe Bremzen and I will
be playing some music with him this year.. we're busy
setting up a recordlabel with a group of about 10 people and
the plan is to launch the label on the 6th of may. Bremzen
and I will be doing almost continous electronica
improvisations while other label members are doing
perfomances too. people who aren't performing can come join
us and play.
although Spinvis isn't on our label he has agreed to come
play that evening, as a kind of way to attract an audience.
so chances are he will be joining us too..

from what I've read I get the idea that she has a pretty
busy schedule, although she does seem to have a lot of fun,
yes. :)

nice one! maybe we'll get to see your label touring in these
parts one day, with spinvis to attract the people :)

so is everyone doing electronic music for now or you intend
to invite some bands as well?

as for solex, i haven't read her diary yet, but i listened a
radio show about her and i got that impression :)

only Bremzen and I do electronica, really. well the more
"IDM"/experimental kind at least.

most people on the label form bands. there are even an
ensemble and a quartet on there.

yes. small runs, a lot of them paid for and produced by
themselves.

we want to release a kind of sampler called "Monster" each 6
months, only they won't really be samplers (because we think
samplers aren't that interesting) but a complete new work.
labelmembers can give music that possibly can be included on
a new Monster, and a group of three people then makes a
choice and compiles the cd. they can do anything they want
to the track though - it can be edited in any way.

if the first one ever actually gets done, I'll be sure to
make a fuss about on here. :P

great, i hope everything falls in place. you seem to have
preference for a non boring music so that's always a bonus
:)
