Kay, so Arturia went and did it again.

Minimoog; Score
Moog Modular; Score
CS80v; Score
Arp 2600; Score

Lets just forget about storm studio and call it 10's across
the board.

Fuck this synth sounds sick. I only played around with
presets a bit, but it sounds and works just as well as their
moog modular. and the digital sequencer is the bomb.

Find it, get it, use it.

must download this one :D (wahhhh)

I already got moog modular, is this worth it?

Everything by arturia seems to be worth it. The only one I
don't get a heap of use from is minimoog, and that is still
worth it.

this is pretty damn cool, though I wish I could get my ozone
working so that I could use it for playing the notes instead
of my mouse.

arturia makes some of the best softsynth ever, maybe the
best vintage synth emulations around...
combine arturia vsti's with psp's effect and you have the
studio-combo of phatness!!!

You can't forget Native Instruments.

Also, DiscoDSP's nordrack emulations are pretty hot.

Favorite Companies;

Native Instruments
Waves
Arturia
VirSYN
DiscoDSP

does anyone know for sure what the polyphony limitation in
this synth (arturia arp 2600) is? sometimes it seems
unlimited but on certain patches, with the sequencer hold
on, it will only play like 3 notes and then stops...

I would only even bother with this thing if I can get at
least 10-15 polyphony from it, so does anyone know the exact
number? or is it different for every patch? if so, why?

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2005-02-01 13:07 [#01484342]
Points: 9958 Status: Lurker

Its different, depending on how you patch the oscilators
through the different modules.

There is also the poly switch that you have to set to poly,
and the portamento options.

Anyways, why are you trying to get 15 notes happening at
once. That would sound awfull.

because I play complex melodies (i'm more of a keyboard
player than a synthesist) and I want to be able to play my
favorite chord progressions through this thing... and 3
notes of polyphony just doesn't hack it. :)

*bump*

I think i found out how to change voices, as there is a
"voices" button in the top right corner, which goes in
powers of 2 up to 32, but so far it hasn't had any
discernable effect on the sound output, other than raping my
available system resources...

has anyone used this prog with a midicontroller keyboard
yet? how much latency is there between when you press a key
and when the note sounds? Basically, if it's anything other
than instantaneous then I wouldn't have much use for a synth
like this as it wouldnt be good for anything but step
sequencing...

offline fleetmouse from Horny for Truth on 2005-02-01 17:06 [#01484558]
Points: 18042 Status: Lurker

Pretty much any VSTi softsynth is expected to be low latency
these days - Arturia's other shit is.

You're missing the point wanting more polyphony. A good
monophonic modular or semi-modular synth can fill a mix with
one note. If you want to play chords get something like the
NI organs and electric pianos and that.

Me I love monophonic synths. I came up with this patch that
sounds like a cross between a 303 and a GR-300 (old guitar
synth) and I can't stop playing it. It squeaks and squeals.
It's like masturbation except you don't get sore.

well, suppose I am missing the point but I want more
polyphony anyway... can it be done?

I'm aware how fat this synth can be, which is why I want to
experiment with different combinations of fatness while
playing multiple notes... call it a sonic experiment if you
like ;)

The Arturia synths eat a shitload of CPU. :-(

If you increase the voices and have unison set they'll all
play the same note. Make sure unison is off.

ah, thank you for reminding me about the unison switch. I
think that's what caused the massive CPU brainfart my
computer experienced.

good luck on that, unless you have $1,000 - $2,500 just
laying around on your floor that you can spend on a classic
synthesizer

Mommy can I have one? Please!?

do you have a boyfriend? you should move in with me... we
could make synthesizer babies and have fun doing it all
night long... so you own that picture with the 2600 innit?

my children will be traditionally trained and programmed
like good like boys & girls should be... (with beats and
melodies and harmonies flowing in their veins)

my boys name will = Mr. Kraftwerk
my girls name will = Ms. Arpeggio
