i didn't buy 100th Window by Massive Attack when it came
out some time ago because it had copy-protection (no logo,
but some text on the back of the jewel case made it clear it
had some)...

...some days ago i seen 100th Window on sale at the shop
(8.99€), and i don't know why, i looked at the back of the
case again. and the text on the back of the text had changed
and didn't mention any copy-protection anymore.

did they remove the copy-protection from it (which would be
a good idea), or just don't mention the copy-protection
anymore (which would be a vile idea)??

Hey, you're both from france right? Have either one of you
seen that episode of south park where they travel through
"french canada", AH HA HA HA HA.. "would you like a mouse
tache" AH HA HA.. "french people are kinda strange"
AH HA HA HA HA! And they all are dressed like the munchkins
from oz or something and sing the french canada song? Man,
french people really REALLY suck. So anyway, what's up guys?
How's it going?

I think Virgin disconitued making copy-protected cds, maybe
that's the reason you spotted this unprotected edition.

All copyprotected records has to be labelled as one. It is
no cd, and some rule of marketing makes it illegal to have
the Compact Disc - Digital Audio logo on the cover. So if
you are in doubt, look for that logo (or absence of logo)

Note that not all cds have that logo, even though they are
unprotected :)

Copy protection is a farce. It is always possible to
circumnavigate and simply inconveniances legit users. I've
seen licensed autocad users make hacks so they don't need
the dongle. Meanwhile, pirates don't have to put up with
it.

Look at windows XP. I specifically didn't buy a licenced
copy (yes, I would of bought it otherise- I have almost all
other "home" flavors, on real media with real keys!) because
of the gay hardware related copy protection.

Oracle (Database) Corporation are best- no dongles, no "must
register online" guff; There aren't even licence keys when
you install. They just have a very, very good licensing
dept. who seek out people using unlicenced copies.

Copy protection is expensive to implement and never gives a
good return in terms of sales made (eg it costs money to
develop and there is no evidence to suggest it increases the
number of sales.)

apart from that, the music inductry has been actively
ENCOURAGING people to use their computers to play cds over
the last 5 years, and now they turn round and shit in your
face with this. fuck 'em.

I think the backlash from the ipod boom crowd would have
pretty much been too much for them to keep it up
