too much damn music. especially electronic music. i need weeks to a month to fully take in just a couple of tracks, and there seems to be great tunes coming out almost daily. believe it or not, i wish there weren't so much damn music. it's quite overwhelming and i almost get in a state of "omg-must-get-it-all". after losing one of my 200gb'rs, along with all my music, i've found i quite fancy only having a few dozen albums....mostly my favorites that i had backed up on my work machine. so now i've been listening to the same couple dozen albums, and really am not too worried about the rest. i haven't even loaded up soulseek to start recovering the music...and my hdd crash was well over 2 months ago. so, yeah .... i hate being overwhelmed with music. |

I'd love to always have something new + good to listen to... at least it doesn't get boring... (of course; going back to classics and totally amazing songs is also necessary, but there are few AMAZING songs...) [2]??? |

As far as I can see, its all part of the evolutionary process. What happens when a food source does not have enough consumers to adequitely control its population? It gets riddled with diseases, extinguishes its own food source, etc etc. I can see how this would apply to massive ammounts of music, without an economically feasable source of distrobution and/or consumption, it will start controlling itself. I am pretty sure this is going to be a big part of the next major musical evolution, which is about to become fully mature within the next two years. So, if my prediction rings true, you will notice a drastic decrease in the ammount of quality music, both underground and mainstream within the next two years. |

I think we can all agree we have already seen a massive decrease in the amount of "quality" music. The question is, does that "decrease" come from the experience of music in one genre, and thus binding memories to certain tracks, or types of music? Thus, filtering out the rest that you learn to have no feeling for? As one jumps into a genre they are new to, it is overwhelming and there are tons of tracks to sift through. Now, using this with your prediction ... I become a bit more "knowledged" in a genre, after listening over the years ... Binding memories to certain songs and basing my -future- music-likes off of the previous. Now this would seem to go along with your prediction that, after a while, a peak will be reached and instead of taking everything in ... the user will reflect back on the previous and work backwards to rid of all the garbage, and concentrate on the goods. But I think that can be applied to most anything in life ... but this topic has prospect. |

I donno. I kinda sometimes convince myself I have something worthwhile to say. That usually clears itself after a few hours. Then its all stupid posts about music that nobody seems to reply to, and stupid insults that don't seem to have any real target, or too specific a target.... I donno. I get chatty when I am tired. ;) |

I don't think there is a decrease in quality. Only in new experiences. At least for me. Even my favorite artists don't impress me like they used to. I don't think anything will ever top my experience of listening to Aphex's ICBYD album. It's like a drug addict's first high. I'm contstanly trying to get back that feeling. |

Maybe you should change your ways, xf, much like I have (after my hdd crash). delete most of your music, just to prove that "you can" and that you don't hold some addiction to your data. remove all the albums that you just don't listen to anymore, and streamline down to some of your favorites....now you're stuck with them and it might help you :) |

jesus christ no way, i thought i lost a 120gig drive with most my stuff on it a few months ago and i spent ages recovering it. i don't want to go through that pain again :) on the positive site i'm now listening to a lot of music i haven't heard in years and enjoying it - presidents of the usa, bloodhound gang, older juno reactor, pet shop boys, lords of acid, trans am, et al. i just need to make my listening habits more rigid; stick with a few albums at a time instead of listening to a whole heap. |

and yes, i'm rather addicted to my data. i would much prefer for my computer to get stolen than the actual hard drives. and hell, i'm proud of it, i guess :-P |

haha, word, i'd do the same. grab the laptop, my main machine, and i'm out of there. fuck everything else :) then again, i'd be pretty screwed if all my tax invoices got burnt. i wonder if insurance covers your claims? that'd be neat. |

in the case of 700GB, yeah thats too much, that room to fit all music, all there is - 700Gb are you f ing kidding me? i hope is not just mp3 and you have some flac or wav stuff there, the hd on my computer is 30 gb and ive barely been able to fill that since 1999! its called the delete button, you also have to empty the recycle bin every now and then. |

Yeah I had to reformat my hard drive a couple of days ago, so I backed up all my music. I haven't moved back any of it though. I've just been listening to the same albums for a while. |
