PC, because I'm too lazy to re-learn macs and no one makes
software or good games for it.

Sorry, votes for mac don't really count as full votes in
this tally.

PC-2 Mac-1/2

pc...
but seeing as how the only thing that makes a mac a "mac" is
it's os, I guess I am voting for computers in general

good point... but I think the essence of this poll is
contrast between the operating systems, anyway.

i'm on a mac here, so i'll say mac.

who cares though - these days everything's crossplatform
anyway. it's all about the applications, and what a vague
question.

mac vs pc for WHAT?

And its more than applications... hardware, processing
power, upgradability, having mouse buttons (notice the 's'
at the end of mouse button? That means more than one). Macs
certainly win points for looking pretty out of the box, but
for an extra $200 you can buy a clear box and a bunch of
neon wiring and glowing fans for your pc, and it doesn't
need to end up costing you an arm and a leg for your system.

Generally, I try to avoid any program that sells how stylish
it is over what it can do.

Well, it certainly looks nice...

PC>Mac. (Yes, I own both)

I remember reading an article on "Total Product" and
Macs/PCs were used to great effect to explain the concept.
I'm paraphrasing, but it goes like this:

When you buy something, the technical qualities of the thing
are only a small part of the "total product", or "complete
package", if you will. The Mac may well be a technically
superior machine (I'm not saying it is, but even if it were
the following would be true), however, some of the other
things you get when you buy a PC are:

A wider userbase- consequently more/cheaper second hand
parts. More people to ask for advice. More people to network
with (yes, I know you can network PCs and Macs, but it's a
lot easier with a load of PCs).

More 3rd party support- This offers competative prices and
also security- if one company goes bust, your computer isn't
made redundant- you'll always be able to get software/parts
from somewhere else.

Faster development- due to several rival firms in every
area, you get rapid small increases, rather than slow, big
increases. Look at macs- killer speed when they're launched,
then a couple of years (during which time the PC overtakes
them), before another big leap.

******************************************

It doesn't sound that big a deal, but think about it.
Imagine you are going to buy a car that is exactly specced
as a rival model, but is slightly more fuel efficient and a
couple of £100 cheaper. You're going to buy it over the
rival car, aren't you?

Now, imagine the "better" car is from a new, small company,
which may well go under in 6 months time. This will result
in extremely expensive parts and cause you no end of
headaches when it comes to getting it serviced. For these
reasons (unless it becomes a "classic"), the resale value is
likely to take a nosedive too. Suddenly, the fact that it's
technically superior, doesn't seem so important, does it?

Anyway, back on topic. PCs are better, and not
neccessarily because they are technically superior.

mac.

windows and reaktor makes me want to shot myself.

but when the average windows user is say just a casual user
that does nothing to add to "technical" support. further
these days with online message boards and all that suffices
really... . i've never had a problem on mac or windows
[except continious crashing] that couldnt be sorted... so a
moot point

Mac because I used to own a PC that sucked and Mac seems to
have an OS that is a generation ahead of PC, and could be
two generations ahead by the time Tiger is released.

Also they look far nicer and are the industry standard for
creative work. Also with the G5 they definately aren't slow
anymore, my 1.8 GB 20" imac is super fast and looks
amazing, there isn't anything in the PC market that compares
in the slightest.

Also the rear end of macs look better than the front of most
PC's :)

PC, primarily for the fact that it support more software.
I'd choose Linux over Mac anyway probably because it doesn't
need specific hardware.

"the mac is the industry standard for creative works " was
maybe so several years ago, but it isn't really true
anymore.

pc's have just more power for less cost if you know what you
do + there's isn't anymore exclusive softwares (the MAIN
reason why it was the industry standard for creative works)
that'll force you to choose the mac...

that said i'm very happy with how apple is doing, because
(for reasons well explained by ceri) thay can't really
copete with windows based pc's but they are really trying to
push things forward in other domains and the g5 doesn't
sells bad at all...

i don't want to see the pc world dominated by only windows
:|

Yes, now you can get Fisher Price style GUIs in Windows XP
and PC cases and monitors that look like something from a
Futurist's bathroom, Macs really have little to offer to
girls and aesthetes anymore. So, musicians for whom money is
no object are now the sole market?
