MTV (Europe)

Hi,

Don't know if MTV in the States is this way too, but...

Can anyone explain why MTV (Northern European version) plays
roughly the same 20 videos a day? There's so much else they
could play!!! Is this a naive question? I really believe
that people want to see more than what's on. I'd say every
hour they throw in a different video for good measure.

Anyone know what's up?

Were you in Latvia? Sorry if I don't remember. So, you
getting the real-deal MTV?

that's what they telly me. (not latvia, slovenia, but
apperantly it's going to be a south-east european version of
mtv).

i was kidding about being excited, and i was kidding even
more about the job thing, sorry.

epohs: That would answer everything.

Here's the list as per memory:
Gwen Stefani - Whatcha waitin for?
Kylie Minogue - ...
411 - (nice grainy black and white video in a club)
Roots Manuva - (Collasal Something or other)
Beastie Boys - Letter to NY (or something like that)
John Legend - Used to Love U
Eminem - Toy Soldiers
Feeder - (some black and white video)
Blue - (the one that starts off with a phone off the hook)
Britney Spears - My Perrogative
Nas - Bridging the Gap
The Music - black and white negative effect
Destiny's Child - (the one where they are battling a
different version of themselves in an alley)
JayZ and Linkin Park - (Some live song)
Scissor Sisters - (on a stage somewhere with dancing
scissors)

How many is that. Maybe there are a couple I'm forgetting.

couple of hours those 15 months ago :)

Would it be soooo expensive to run a station that plays a
given video only once per day? I swear the world needs
something like that, or better yet, maybe iTunes will
increase their video selection and there won't be a need for
MTV.

MTV sorta stopped being about music, and started being about
the most retarded aspects of pop culture (including a little
music related stuff) sometime in the early/mid 90s i think.

qrter: I'm visiting family in Istanbul at the moment. It's
been raining since I've been here, so I've been checking out
videos on MTV among other things.

Ashlee Simpson - La La La
Avril Lavigne - (the one with her all dolled up, intercut
with her living on the street)

Is there actually a Toronto in Sweden, like a mirror in case
the other Toronto goes down?

I have no idea.

anyway, MTV is a corporation, they care about money in the
first place.

so that means the more popular stuff wins.

MTV wasn't always as shit, I might add and also there are
worse things - MTV owns a second channel in the Netherlands,
called The Music Factory (or TMF), which is even more
disgusting.

The problem with MTV is shown in it's name. Music
Television. Music should really have nothing to do with
television.

Music should be held on it's own for the most part. The idea
of putting audio and video together is interesting but leads
to cliches one after another and takes ultimately takes time
away from the music itself.

Epohs was quite right too about when MTV abandoned music
videos for the most part and went cultural, if you can
consider that culture without vomiting for hours.

yeah, it's a corporation and, you know, I would think
there'd be money in offering a diverse, non-repetitive
product because it'd be better than what's on now.

Any good places online to watch a wide selection videos?

you've got to admit though, barring the usual cliches,
marrying music and video together leads to some interesting
visuals you don't really get to see anywhere else. You'd
never really see stuff like that in a movie theatre or even
an art gallery.

so right, thecurbcreeper. When do we get Richard and
Cunningham? Almost never. It is all cliches and canned
junk.

There should be a site that caters to hosting IDM videos.
Then maybe more could of those videos could be made. Hey,
maybe I'll do it. Does that sound cool?

not to mention the commercials, they are the same each 15
minutes

I still miss the Chilloutzone, that used to be on every
saturdaynight from 3:00-5:00 here in Holland

Actually, to be fair. I do like an hour long show on mtv2
called subterranean. I would support a subterranean channel.

I had MTV2 in Canada and I think it played mostly Hip
Hop/R&B.
