Or top 5, or top 20 or whatever and ever. There are alot of
gamers on this board so I want to get some opinions here. I
think 2004 was the best year in video game history. More
contenders of game of the year than any year I can remember,
outside of maybe 1998.

1- PS2 Metal Gear Solid 3- Hideo Kojima is ''the artist'',
his games go the extra mile. Long after engines and physics
and control schemes are obsolete, this game's story,
charisma and tragedy will still be as good as it gets. The
Boss is right up there with the incoherent old man from the
first Zelda as the best character ever in a game. ''Let's
play money making game''. What an ending, the best ever on
so many levels. Even the actual final battle itself was an
awesome artistic triumph. And there's some pretty good
gaming in there, too. That helps.

2- PS2 Killzone- took me totally by surprise, because of the
lukewarm, inaccurate reviews. My favorite FPS since Perfect
Dark. Intense battles, incredible graphics when you consider
the 5-6 year old hardware it's running on, and the
grittiest, most badass, neo-apocalyptic stylized noir
presentation ever. Fixed everything I didn't like about
Halo... nothing glossy and clean, a VERY convincing and
oppressive militaristic/warzone feel, and you're fighting
intimidating soldiers rather than alien muppets. I hate
shooting ''creatures'' in FPS games, I like killing evil
humans because I'm a sadist with a chip on my shoulder.
Another work of art, such great fucking atmosphere. It has
flaws but when Killzone 2 hits the PS3, I am expecting
AMAZING things from Guerilla, these people know how to craft
some hardcore killing.

3- Xbox Ninja Gaiden- the fucking KING of hardcore action
gaming.
4- Xbox- Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow
5- PS2 Grand Theft Auto- San Andreas
6- PS2 Ratchet and Clank 3
7- GC Metroid Prime 2
8- PS2 Silent Hill 4- The Room
9- Xbox Thief 3
10- Xbox Rallisport Challenge 2- best racing game ever...
until GT4 next month.

I'm going to have to agree with #1 there. Although I haven't
really played anything else from this year other than NHL2k5
and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

Both of which I like quite a bit. Hopefully I'll get Metroid
Prime 2 sometime in the future. I'm more of a bargain gamer
and tend to be behind for the most part.

I don't have a satisfactory gaming PC, and I'm just not too
interested. The only way I know how to game is on a
couch/bed on the big screen. The lineup was pretty bare
bones this year anyway. Dorky MMORPGs, and Half Life 2. If I
had a chance to play the latter a bit more, it might make my
list.

I thought you had played Doom 3?

I wouldn't call Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Thief: Deadly Shadows
and Rome: Total War a bad result for the PC, to name a few..

I played it. It's not top 10 material by any means, I think
the general consensus in the gaming community was
''failure'' and ''boring''. Actually I thought it was very
very good, but it really got lost in the shuffle this year.
It's shit compared to something like Metroid Prime 2, and
got way overhyped. That engine is the most intriguing part
of the game!

Yeah, those are all solid games, but nothing I'm interested
in. It's not that I don't like the scene, it's just that I
don't have a good gaming rig and I don't like RTS games.
Most good PC games are on Xbox anyway.

i can't really remember all of what came out last year.

1. metal gear solid 3 (though i only rented it and made it
to the sniper battle)
2. zelda four swords adventure (and i played it by myself)
3. tales of symphonia
...
some other stuff.

i say this in every game thread but: i really, really wish i
wasn't broke. resident evil 4 and mercenaries look better
than anything that came out last year (bar mgs3).

Resident Evil 4 is blowing people away. It's the real deal.
The reviews kicked the shit out of Half Life 2 and Halo...
think about that.

I'm so excited.

i played only these two old games during 2004:
Quake3, Carmageddon 2. With bigger percentage of time spent
on Quake3.

pretty much the only new game i played this year is GTA: San
Andreas, but it's pretty much the most fun i've ever had
playing a video game ever pretty much. it was also among
the harshest games on the state of my marraige since Counter
Strike!

I stayed away from killzone due to reviews. Your review will
allow me attempt to play this game.

Halo2 didnt make your top 10?

Rent it for a week, you won't regret it. The single player
is long as heck. Great online/multi, too. Great maps, modes,
and it even has bots like Perfect Dark. I can't even fathom
the moronic reviews. The battles in this game are the shit.
It's one of those games where you get killed if you poke
your head out your cover for more than 2 seconds, so I guess
it isn't for everyone.

Dann- MGS3 is going to have some added modes and features
and stuff. But still, it sucks to be you. :_-( Best game
ever.

Complete Metal Gear Solid 3 soundtrack, all 200MB of it

usually?

I play a lot on the M!6 server (canadian clan server), and
various quebec public servers.
what's your steam name? I'll give you an add and we'll have
a game some time.
CS:S > HL2 imo

Bots are an important factor. I always liked the addition of
bots!

:)

Why no Halo2 on your list?

yeah, i had a pretty sweet strategy. i could clear like <
95% on all the boards up until there were like 8 or 9
balls.

can you still get that game on the web anywhere? maybe i'll
install it and see how good i am these days.

recovered this game. oh here it is: LAZY_TITLE

i used to play it a lot when i was younger, when it actually
came with windows 3.1 or whatever...

Not too shabby for my first game in probably 5 years. But,
I had to quit cause I don't have time to play right now.

Favorite, god I can hardly think about what I was playing
last week.

Anyway, here's my top 5.

5. I can't remember five games I've played this year.

4. Metal Gear Solid : Remake - Really fun game. More
polished than the original with some extras.

3. Tales of Symphonia - I still haven't got to finish this.
But I seldom finish rpgs. This one has good character
design, an alright story, and wonderful FX.

2. Paper Mario - Great diologue and graphics. Plus a very
cool battle system.

1. Metroid Prime - I just fell in love with this game. Maybe
I was on mushrooms. Great in every way.

So far Resident Evil 4 should be in this spot even though it
just came out. The game is so good it should erase all the
top tens from 2004.
