lots of good C4C stuff revisiting the old 98/99 neuro sound
lets see what else
gridlok has been pretty good
toronto's own stranjah was released on 31 records last year,

I think the Tech-step stuff can be quite dull, but the
Jazzy stuff ala Goodlooking (Bukem/Blame/Makoto..) is great

i never liked it much. some tracks are cool, some are

some are total shite, being DnB only by the standard rhythm
utilized.

samples

why make fun of the beats when not a single person on this
board can make good drum and bass breaks, let alone bass
noises that are suitable for such music?
it takes a lot of production skill and break analysis to
sequence them just right
not even luke vibert can do it properly, all the amen
andrews stuff was cheeky but had weak sound

and if you think it's all the same time, check out hive's
"against the grain", great tunes

Black sun empire and the spy technologies labels have put

it was never too interesting to start with..i mean it's
awesome for the dance floor, but a bit boring to listen to
in a chair.

some classic shit like DJ Zinc 'Reach Out', Aphrodite 'King
of the Beats' were phun. not DnB, kind of easy mixture of
jungle and DnB. Funnnny. These stupidly funny basslines and
funnie drums... still listen to these two sometimes (not
very often).

yah I know, but if I could mix this down on some good
monitors and get it properly mastered it COULD have that
snap.
while we wait till that happens check out this mix by
aphrodite.
really hard d&b set. very unusual for aphrodite.

i've been into drum and bass for a good while now,
and i definitely go through periods of being bored with it.
i don't really look to it to be wow'd quite like i did in
93-96.

that said, i don't think d&b was particularly more boring
this year or lately then it has been in the past 3-4-5
years.

there's been a few tunes i liked in the past year because
they just sound so "good". there just really aren't many
that blow me away with a new style or innovation.

On the subject of DnB I was suprised to find Aphrodite uses
Octamed for the vast majority of his stuff.

I've gotten a lot better at doing dnb bass (hardest part
IMO- it's not too difficult to make/edit mediocre breaks)
recently. May go over some my older tracks for a re-edit
methinks.

After getting diverted by the Tech stuff, I find myself
prefering the older sound nowadays. Oh and Welsh DnB- High
Contrast is the boy.

"it's not too difficult to make/edit mediocre breaks"

I mean that in terms of cutting up existing breaks.
Programming ones from scratch in a drum machine that are
good is pretty tricky.
