Have you ever pissed into a plastic bottle...screwed the lid on it and then watched as slowely the sides of the bottle are pulled inwards as a mini vacuum is formed?

  Anyone know why this happens?

It's probably something to do with warm air from the piss rising to fill the rest of the bottle as it's first sealed, then as it cools it contracts, pulling the bottle a bit with it.

Urine's a liquid, sure, but there's lots of stuff in it that readily forms a solid (hence kidney stones, bladder stones, etc. in all animals which have bladders and kidneys). I'd guess that, as the temperature drops, some things condense on a very tiny scale. It's probably invisible because the mixture is good and that's why we don't normally get stones. Most people are equipped with a microscope on the underside of their tongue; if you pour some of this into your mouth you may be able to witness the transformation..

there's no way just temperature expansion could account for a great change. I'd be more inclined to believing something chemical happens..

this is awesome.
Some of the shit that condensed may not happily go back to liquid state, so maybe it won't expand again.

Seriously, i have around 40-odd 3 litre cider-bottles of piss stored in my garage*. And yes, i have noticed this effect. I think it's something to do with the warmth, it happens when you put hot water in there too.

"Bull Elk in Rut" shall now be the title of my piece.

It's actually a conundrum, this one. I started doing it as a lazy, drunken necessity whilst sat in front of the computer, but had to turn it into a Project so i could feel better about myself. And now i've got a load of months-old piss in the garage.

Such is the existential torment that we artists must bear.

I remember years ago when I was a kid I pissed into a some old pot in the back garden, and then a friend of my brother who was round at the time did the same. The next day there was a perfectly circular layer of material (like linen or wool) covering the top. Obviously now I know there was this material lining the bottom of the pot and it had risen in the night, but for years after I thought that if you combine two people's piss you get cloth, and I'd discovered something amazing.

sorry the temptation was infinite. Anyway yeah like I said there's weird stuff in urine. The most interesting thing I've learned in the past month (I learned that I'm a wanker but that's not interesting) is that bird shit is white due to chemicals which we have in our urine, and they don't piss, so.. fierce stuff in there

I heard a stupid trick of freezing piss in a frisbee and then cracking it out and sliding it under someone's door. So much work and you fuck a frisbee (ha) in the process. A+++ insightful will read again

Piss is a good anticeptic. Apparently if you are stung or something and have no medical supplies if you piss on the wound it helps.

Because the piss is hot, it is less dense and has a greater volume than when it is at room temperature. Hence when it cools the total volume inside the bottle is less and since it is a sealed container the sides of the bottle are pulled inwards.

piss heats air, hot air cools off, occupying less volume -> bottle shrinks

im sure ive repeated everyone else in this thread.

okay ive decided to read the tread, i think xceque was right. if you're doing the dishes and you put a hot glass upside down on a wet kitchen table, you can see small bubbles form around the edges of the glass. its the air changing temperature and thus changing volume.

  p*V = n*R*T
