Sometimes I'm really baffled about all this DVD shit.
First, who the hell makes DVDs that only play on certain machines? Why not make all DVD's work on all DVD players!?? IS THAT TOO HARD A CONCEPT TO GRASP!?
Now we have some stupid ticker telling us that we can only change a dvd players region 5 times? Who the fuck is programming all this stupid shit and why?

But DVD players have always done this. And it's done because of differing release schedules for this n this. In the US TV shows go through syndication so release dates are later than, say, the UK. Films come out earlier in the US cos they're 'bigger' and 'better' than anyone else.
Basically, it's all about control and power. They want it so badly.

Films come out in the US first because they're American films, just as British films come out here first because they're British, Chinese come out in China first etc etc.

can someone explain to me why the region can only be changed a limited number of times? I was going to just let it be, but this shit has been boggling my mind... why would they introduce such a pointless limitation via software? IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE DAMNIT!!!!
