When I was younger I would always get cds and videogames around Christmas or my birthday. Since I didn't really have a source of income this when pretty much the only time I got them. So, I'd mainly be playing one game and listening to one cd over and over for a while. I came to associate the music with the game and the game with the music. The association can last years. Only recently does OK Computer not remind me of Star Fox and vice versa.

Well, since I've been working for a while it doesn't seem to happen as much. I buy games more frequently and listen to about 5 cds a day on average.

One game/cd that did just happen to, well, happen was Bola's Soup and Metroid Prime on Gamecube. No game has ever went so perfectly with music and vice versa. Although I do think the cd and the game stand greatly on their own and the metroid prime soundtrack is pretty great as well. So yeah, I still associate these two together, but it's almost as if they should be.

Yes, I know it's Christmas Eve.
  Anyone else do this?

hmmm not really,
actually the last time i did this was playing Natural Selection and listening to Gridlock and Quench. Worked extremely well together. I did that for awhile.

Usually I just listen to the music in the game. I've bought the original sound versions of Crono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6 on cd. Very nostalgic when I just listen and dont play the game...

Bola and Metroid, that's way righteous.
Y'know, even though I'm a hardcore gamer and musicker, I've never experienced this phenomena. I guess when I think of games, I immediately think of THEIR music, their original soundtracks. I listen to a lot of game music, everyday. I can't separate the game and its music and nothing comes between it.

for a while i always listened to games with just their sound. i have a surround sound system i'd hook it up to. well, it used rca plugs and i had been using an old commodore64 monitor as a screen. once that crapped out i went back to the regular cable hook up on my tv for videogames and i pretty much listen to music whenever i'm playing. there are a few games where i must listen to the sound, like metal gear solid for instance. i miss listening to game's music, but on the tv i have it just isn't worth it.
