How does one do it?

I'm trying to put together a DJ sort of set, and I was just
wondering how other people go about doing this? Are there
certain programs I should become familiar with? I'm new to
this, but I want to put together some sort of mix set. Can
anybody point me in the right direction?

heh...while i was staring to dj i had to rely in a small
pile of records we had.
so while a year passed we had to make a tracklisting of the
set to go smooth cos you had all sorts of styles...but
nowdays it's just a matter of improvisation infront of the
crowd.
if they show a good emotion you know the party will be a
bomb, but sometimes you have cold people and you start to
wonder....what can i play for them to make em dance?!

try traktor dj studio , you might need an external audio
interface if your using a lappy so you can have sound output
and be able to que up tracks on yer headphones at the same
time .

Wphex: I just got a copy of Traktor DJ, but whenever I try
to open it, it tells me that it works only with Creative
Labs Audigy cards (I've got a Sound Blaster Audigy). Do you
know if there's anyway to bypass this? I've got an old
Creative Labs card, but it's a lot less capable than my
semi-new Audigy 2.zs pci card, and I don't want to switch
'em if I don't have to because I'm in the process of getting
a Audigy 2 ZS Internal I/O Drive, so I really want to get
this baby to work. Your help is much appreciated!

try virtual dj as well (not as advanced as traktor) but it
works. and i also think it should work with most soundcards.

This is weak. Just dawned on me, shit Sound Blaster is made
by Creative Labs; Traktor DJ just isn't registering it.
Hopefully I'll figure this out via google or something. I'll
check out virtual dj too while I'm at it, thanks Oyvinto.
