It's minidisc and they are still very much alive and kicking as both a portable music player and portable recordin unit. God bless you for asking though my child. |

it did kind of go tits-up, I believe the production of "music minidiscs" (as in: minidiscs with albums on them) has pretty much halted. there were also rumours of Sony largely stopping the production of recordable minidiscs. but that could very well be very false indeed. |

i only know of one person who ever used minidiscs, and they lost their player/recorder, so they don't anymore. |

i just ordered one of the new ones w/ the 1 gig discs and losless pcm recording (oh and they work as a usb harddrive without drivers) :) i got some in-ear binaural microphones too, for discretely sampling unknowing victims... for recording audio at MD's price theres still no equivalent product yeah presley the lower-end 1 gig models are fucking enormous... like 3 centimetres thick the one i got is 22 mm.... still nothing to boast about the most expensive one is 15mm, but that things expensive autechre use minidiscs, freeform sampled the stuff for Audiotourism with minidiscs, and i think i heard four tet uses them too.... so there, some celebrity endorsements i think that says it all |
