Its cool. My old man had it back in the seventies. Its in
wicked condition. Now all I need are some reals so I can
record shit with it!
I wonder how much they go for...

yeah, those can be fun. i bought one about five years ago
at a garage sale and made some recordings on it, but it
broke pretty quickly.

Aparently, you can use them like an analogue delay pedal,
according to my cousin who makes experimental rock music.

my dad has one. one thing that sucks is that all the stuff
he had on his old reels is f'd up because over the years,
the magnatism in the tapes like degrades or something. it
makes a great little decorative piece to spice up any room
though even if it don't work so good anymore!

yeah, because the record head, and the playback head are
seperate

so you have a signal being played...

bus it to the reel, and record, and bring back the output of
the playback into the mix, while its recording.

since its being recorded, then having to physically be moved
to the playback (which comes after the record head) there is
a delay between those times. adjust the tape speed for delay
times.

thatll give you a one shot delay.

to get more delays, bus the return of the tape back into
itself... creating a feedback loop (not like sssskreeetch
feedback, but, the output will be coming back in, and going
out, and coming back in)

some guy (i forget his name) released an ambient type album
of old tapes of his, that over time degraded... and while he
was listening, the tape was degrading more and more... so he
recorded this, and so the album is like this music loops
playing over and over, getting more degrated, and fucked up,
but apparently its really awesome sounding

havnt heard it yet, but sounds sweet

Yeah, that was pretty much what he said. Aparently, he used
three of them, and would create these really intricate
feedback noise arrangements....

Thats really cool. I'll try to do this when my reels come
in. I want to try to sequence a track through tape splicing.
