I have the R and A models (the older ones)
The R is very nice, and will let you get some nice sounds.
The A on the otherhand, is rather flat sounding.
I heard the S is the best.

i have an es-1 (the sampler one)

it's alright. i don't really use it for sequencing, i do all
that on a yamaha rx-11 and trigger the samples on the es-1.
it has a fairly good amount of memory (if you buy the larger
card) and it can fit quite a lot of songs and patterns into
the one file it creates. the effects are decent, but only
one can be applied at a time (to one or more samples) but
supposedly you can resample them with the effect of your
choice. i haven't really tried figuring that one out. 300
bucks i think it cost me. supposedly they are really great
to use together if you have more than one of the electribes

Yeah everything still stands about what I said the EM-1 in
that thread.

I highly recommend the ER-1 I have the other two first
generation electribes and this one gets a lot of mileage
whilst the others gather dust. Only my opinion tho, I
think Ceri JC enjoys the EA1 quite a bit.

Another Electribe Thread

I like the ER-1 best. A very good alternative to expensive
real analog drum machines IMO and tops for use when DJing.

The EA-1 is quite good (for a "toy" synth), but has a fairly
limited range of sounds. It's good when used with other
stuff (like the ER-1), but I haven't managed to do anything
really good using just them. It's good for basslines and
simple leads, but don't expect absynth/andromeda type
evolving textures from it.

The rhythm on both is really tight. Very, very good.

ER-1 : very nice device, especially for live gigs, been
using it without any problems, and it sounds alright. never
tried any of the other models in the series.

Ha ha, those boys have some snags, but that's a wicked
video. Some pretty good sounds out of it to and they managed
to use some restraint when doing that metallic delay trick
everyone does with 'tribes. Nice stuff. Not you, perchance?

i had the er1 and it was wicked! sold it to a mate who uses
it with the ea1 and an mpc2000, makes proper catchy synthpop
style tunes, no links tho, he aint online so can give u an
example

I use the er1, it's got a very simple but versatile synth
engine that let's you take it way beyond standard rhythm
sounds, the LFO modulation has got a hell of a lot of bite
and some of the sounds you can get are akin to FM synthesis,
especially if you use the ring mod feature and delays.
the only problem I have with it is the bass is VERY heavy
and can sometimes completely domininate your mix but that's
nothing a bit of compression and mixing can't sort out.

well, you can use the low boost to decrease the bass
