if you need to resist getting stoned, i would say you have some addiction to it, now this is nothing like substance addiction or alcohol addiction, more like coffee or tobacco. its actually much worse, because not many people see a marijuana addiction as dangerous. |

i see what you mean, i wanted to be "on a level" all the time so i smoked all the time. but it wasn't addictive because i had the option to stop any time i wanted, and subsequently did stop instantly, and that was 8 months ago. so its not addictive |

not like a cigarette at all. not being argumentitive, but i had no dependance on weed, no desire for it other than i liked the buzz. coffee or tea i could live without. smoking i would struggle a lot to give up with . after a day without a fag i'm not a happy person. |

easy to stop but not to quit, can you honestly say you are never going to smoke another joint? apply the same to acid, ectasy, heroin, coke etc... its a routine addiction, people dont place much importance on it, thats the danger |

I can't understand theo himself's problem, i mean if something makes you feel bad, then don't do it. Personally i've smoked weed maybe 4-5 times and it doesn't really do anything for me, i get pretty much the same way as when i down a pint of beer, jokes seem a bit funnier, you laugh a bit more, thats it. |

i smoked weed everyday for 2 years, and things start to get a little weird after a time, like map says, plus, you are always looking to get higher, mixing different things, so i know exactly what hes talking about, but like i said, there are ways you can counter 'the fear', but you know its always there, even to this day, i havent smoke it regularly in 6 years, but whenever i even take a puff, i still get it |

i havent smoked it in over 3 weeks because i'm being drug tested on a regular basis. i really miss it. i don't miss being paranoid all the time. but i definately miss the extra creative energy it gives me. when i'm old and retired i'de like to get a beach house, where i'll do nothing but smoke pot, have sex, and make music forever. |

Just wanted to say that sometimes I cannot even talk to my friends when I am high. I do become "morbidly introspective" when around others and high. This leads to shitty shit sense of self and complete sapping of personal confidence. I know people say just to block it out, but it completely takes over me until its done. Granted it doesnt happen everytime, but often! 80% |

I think a lot of times this 'fear' comes on because you think it HAS to come with the territory, you know what I mean? like you think the last couple of times I smoked it really fucked me up about 20 minutes into it.. I just smoked so it's going to hit me soon aaaaand boom it hits you..because you made it hit you and knock you the fuck out.. it's self-fulfilling prophecy. |

an example from my post below, when i used to get it at parties and when i smoked at shows and stuff, i would start to think, for example, that i was really alone and hadnt any friends who knew the real me, but that there was no way to really counter this, it really got me paranoid and down, but i would analyze the crap out of it - but when i would start to come down, i would calm down and everything would return to normal. but then in order to calm down when i was high, i started to reason with myself, about how certain i was of some of my friends, and i really analyzed the crap out of that and BAM it hit me, if i can come to two completely opposite conclusions, then it is the effect of the drug that is getting me down, and not reality, thats how i shrugged it off, you cant argue with logic |

There is enlightenment to a certain extent, but you can obviously only go so far before the road just ends. After a certain point you're just smoking for the physical effects and possibly some enhanced creativity or to just pass the time due to boredom... |

that's it. there is an enhancement that m can give you.. but it isn't a continual thing.. it doesn't improve from there and you're not going to become more and more insightful or enlightened through continued use. to say there are no positive effects intellectually is just wrong. people who say that are either drug war types or smokers who are apologizing for once finding themselves to be more intelligent than they are.. |

heh from what it seems ive read so far (which isnt too far, but im too lazy) im one of the few current stoners here. i havent not smoked for 24 hours in something around 3 mothns, before that 3 days of sobriety it was another like..... 4 or 5 months. first: I've never thought of cannabis as a social drug.. well for me at least that is hugely bizzarre to me. bud is probably the most social drug of all. there is nothing better feeling to me than to sit back with friends, smoke some fatties, and just chat, listen to music or watch a movie. here at uc santa cruz, probably the epitome of a drug college, smoking weed is what ties me and all my friends together. if it wasnt to ganj, most of us probably wouldnt hang out, but thanks to that wonderful plant, we all enjoy eachother's company and all that. on the subject of the fear: paranoia from ganj (which, from my understanding, is what you guys are defining the fear as) all has to do with one thing: setting. if youre standing smoking a bowl all sketch like in a parking lot with some weirdos, yeah, you can get a bit scared and introverted. it happens to the best of us. but i have made myself a rule that if i ever feel the slightest bit uncomfortable in a session i get out of there. i havent had any kind of fear or anxiety while smoking weed probably since last 4-20 when i was being all sketch in a buddy's dorm room. um im not sure where im going with all this, but im gonna end it here, cuz ive gotta go take a few resin hits and study some more! |

seriously though, I had no idea there were this many people who can not enjoy mary jane. Forgive me if this sounds pretentious, but I feel sorry for all of you. I for one have been studying relentlessly for the past week (for finals) and am done today. I will get high, then I will laugh for hours with my two best friends (my roomates), play copious amounts of music with them, and may even play some video games.
