fight

im on the right side.

the technique is called tsubazeriai, it is when
tsuba ( the part that protects the hand ) meets
another tsuba in a fight - you can look into your
opponents eyes in the moment and scream on him loud -
sometimes you see the eyes beeing bigger because of the
adrenaline :) supreme moment of fight, very energetic and
rare - usually in a fight theres no place for beeing so
close to your opponent.

this technique works teh best when you take a step back and
hit opponents head with the sword.

classic pic !

Reminds me of Star Wars. Anybody here good with Photoshop
want to turn those sticks into light sabres?

swords where you beat your opponent to death?

offline hyakusen from 8=============> on 2004-11-29 06:32 [#01409644]

yes. the thing is they are made from bamboo, for our
protection, not because thats easier : bamboo ones are
heavier than iaito ( steel sword for trainings ), so
its even harder to use them, but when u use to heavy one,
its more easy to use lighter one :)

and of course - nobody dies. one death was noticed in
germany, bamboo sword broke and bamboo parts hitted guys
eyes through the helmet - parts went into brain, and the guy
died. but thats the only such tragic accident noticed in
whole kendo history.

good stuff hyakusen!

In our art we use shinai with leather covering (fukura
shinai) for techniques with real-life speed, bokken for
sword on sword techniques, iaito for blade drawing and
shinken for temeshigeri (actually test cutting).

I've seen some pretty cool ni-ten stuff too.

We don't spar much as it teaches you to do things with a
safety weapon that you wouldn't do with a real sword. When
we do spar with shinai, its to practice kamae(stances),
reaction time and spirit. We don't wear armour usually
although in Japan the folks there sometimes train in a real
yoroi.

It'd be very interesting to have you at our dojo next year
to swap some ideas! (and tunes!)
