so, has anyone bought or listened to this yet? I've read
good reviews about it, and am thinking of getting it for
Christmas... although I'll probably get it regardless of
what is said here...

anyways, anyone who has heard it, please tell me wqhat it's
like... and if you haven't heard the album, and just hate
U2, please just ignore the thread! :)

its possible the other songs are better, but that vertigo
song sounds like so fucking generic radio trash (like nigel
said), it sounds like any fucking flavor of the month band,
only with Bono's voice.

So if it's their 14th album what is the point of the 1, 2,
3?

Oh and I hate them. The only songs by them that I can
tolerate are the really old ones like from Achtung Baby or
whatever. And The Sweetest Thing was also kind of nice. But
for the past 4 years they've been horrible to listen to.

Recycle-$29...my sister got it for 18. And yes it is pretty
rad.

"The only songs by them that I can tolerate are the

Or whatever?? umm, wroight... I dont even want to say
anything about that. Achtung baby or whatever haha ok.

The only thing I can say is that they go with what they feel
not with what society tells them to sing or the types of
music their agents should tell them to play..I can see many
people dont like them but thats cool cause I want them ALL
TO MYSELF!

There's alot of stuff thats been around since the 80's that
still sucks. Alot of fans dont want to leave a band that
lost their touch.

Happens all the time. Look at metallica. They lost it.
People still listen to that crap. Radio friendly garbage.

Anyhow..... U2 sucks more dick than a gay pornstar.

But if you guys like it, cool! 2004 doesnt have much in the
way for great music aside from Lamb of God's new one

"i really resent that they always call themselves "the

not once have they ever called themselves "the greatest band

haha, if you were in a band or a single musician you'll say
"hey guys dont lable me as the best...stop it!.stop it now!!

I enjoy U2 here and there. I like a couple of the older
tracks like Pride and With or Without you.. just plain good
songwriting and I'm a sucker for that effect-laden 80's
sound. I also liked the album Zooropa. The early 90's were
just so cool. Other than that they're a pretty yawn-able
band.

By the way, this whole paragraph is focusing on the music
and choosing to ignore Bono's less-than-agreeable demeanor.
The review might be different if that were taken into
account.

New Stereolab, new Tortoise, new Sonic Youth, new Fly Pan
Am, new Tom Waits, Can remasters, Brian Wilson - Smile, The
Vandermark Five - Elements of Style, Exercises in Surprise,
stuff.

Sorry, by the way, I didn't mean to be so rude and stuff.

dont worry rude is in :D

I don't know
I don't know which side I'm on
I don't know my right from left
Or my right from wrong
Say I'm a fool
You say I'm not for you
But if I'm a fool for you
Oh, that's something

Two hearts beat as one
Two hearts beat as one
Two hearts beat as on

I love U2.

But...

I can TOTALLY understand people who hate them. There are
many good reasons to despise them. But for fuck's sake, how
many other bands their size are anywhere near as good as
them? Rolling Stones are a joke nowadays, Aerosmith is a
joke.

My girlfriend hates them. One of my mates from Donegal hates
them. (Mind you, he hates everything that's anywhere near
mainstream)

So, if you like U2 at all there's a good chance you'll love
the new album (what I've heard is very very good) and if you
dislike them you're not going to suddenly be converted.

If this helps the haters at all...

My Mum once talked to Bono and The Edge's school teacher who
said they were "thick as two short planks"

And no, my Mum is not a big (if at all) U2 fan just for your
information.

I'm not saying there weren't/aren't.

I'm just stating that as a band of such an enormous scale,
they're still turning out a few good tunes. As opposed to
other big bucks bands.
