tool/depeche mode

Netlon Sentinel from beyond on 2001-05-12 19:02 [#00006215]

heh. yesterday was a perfect day for me. last day of school,
bought 2 new cd's: tool and depeche mode. scandalous :)

okay ppl, according to woofer's "everybody sign in here"
topic there are loads of tool fans here. what do you think
about the new album?
myself i likes it, but it is very indigestible. difficult
music. i love the second half of the cd, though.

i also got depeche mode's exciter, which is very nice, imo.
but i can't help but feel they've been listening to some
warp artists. i recommend it to everyone.

Ross from Canada on 2001-05-12 19:29 [#00006218]

im a little disappointed with depeche mode's latest..the
single 'dream on' is imo too minimalistic for its own good.
They're coming here and it's really expensive ($65) however,
it would be an incredible show....is anyone going to the
radiohead show in vancouver?

Naphex-Male from Vancouflex, canada on 2001-05-12 20:55 [#00006219]

Yo. I would go see Radiohead, but I saw them play here
(Vancouver) the last time they were here for Ok Computer. I
don't really feel the need to see them again. Once is
enough. I loved their show to death though. I am going to
see Roxy Music this summer as well as *puke* Pantera! Yes
laugh at me.....please? Orb, Paul Oakenfold etc... this
summer!!!!! peace!

[REFLEX] from Western Canada on 2001-05-12 21:15 [#00006221]

I used to love Pantera.. still have all their CDs and shit
lying around somewherez. I can stomach their stuff, its not
too bad.. I think. I would like to go see TOOL live. Their
new disc frmo what Ive heard is pretty good. Ive been a fan
of theirs for about 6 years.

Ross from can on 2001-05-12 21:51 [#00006222]

I understand how you wouldnt want to see radiohead again,
though it'll be very interesting to see them do some of
their more electronic stuff live.....however, some bands are
just like that, you cant see them more than once, because
your fulfilled the first time..kinda like seeing
beck...amazing, but i dont know if i could see him again

Naphex-Male from Vancouflex, canada on 2001-05-12 22:03 [#00006223]

Yes Tool......good band. Never saw them play live, but I was
into them huge when I was in my Grindcore/Death/Hardcore
Metal days. haha! I also went through that somewhat silly
"grunge"-Nirvana/Melvins/Soundgarden thing at the same time!
The strange thing is...I had heard Nirvana's "Bleach" back
in '88......Depeche Mode....hmmmm. I saw them here in
November? 1993......I've loved this band since 1989 or
so....The show was on the Faith and Devotion Tour....It
almost brought tears to my eyes...I am partial to their
earliest shite like "Work Hard" and "Pipeline"........then
there was the 101 Live set YAAAA!!!...I will shut the fuck
up now......later

Naphex-Male from Vancouflex, canada on 2001-05-12 22:05 [#00006224]

I agree on the Beck point......unfortunately i have seen him
twice! LOL

[REFLEX] from Western Canada on 2001-05-12 22:12 [#00006225]

I still like nirvana hahaha

ClobeSmith from over here on 2001-05-13 00:27 [#00006227]

i thought the new tool, depeche mode (and weezer, too) were
coming out on the 15th. or is that just another
disadvantage of living in the u.s.a.?

Ross from can on 2001-05-13 00:56 [#00006228]

pipeline? lol..that song is regarded as one of the worst dm
ever done, but if you can appreciate it, that's all good..i
think it starts well, but gets repetetive..i love
'everything counts' for its singability..but tracks like
enjoy the silence, never let me down, behind the wheel, home
are my favs.

D-Hex from KC Missouri on 2001-05-13 06:13 [#00006239]

Yeah may 15th is a huge release day. Tool, weezer, depheche
mode, REM, and i believe squarepusher?

Netlon Sentinel from beyond on 2001-05-13 10:17 [#00006256]

yeah cd's tend to get released a few days earlier here (in
holland that is). i hoped to see tool this summer, but they
play only once over here and that concert was sold out
before i knew it was coming. i'm missing the festivals
because of school tests. and depeche mode aren't even coming
to holland! life's a bummer.

Naphex-Male from Vancouflex, canada on 2001-05-15 04:07 [#00006421]

Ya I guess "Pipeline" is pretty dull now, but back when I
was 15 it was pretty cool....Music For The Masses and
Violator are my absolute fave DM records. Weezer got boring
fast...cool Happy Days rip-off though! *****Anyone going to
see Roxy Music on their Reunion Tour?*****PLease peeps
respond to this question!!!! -peace

Ross from can on 2001-05-15 04:15 [#00006423]

no, but roxy music are cool!

Naphex-Male from Vancouver, B.C. Canada on 2001-05-15 10:42 [#00006446]

Excellent to hear that Ross! My renewed interest in Roxy
Music is fueled by the to-be-cult-classic-film Velvet
Goldmine. I recommend this movie to all! Everyone from the
UK has probably seen this one, but any who haven't seen it,
DO!!!! I also recommend everyone check out Roxy Music's
self-titled debut record.....stunning! -peace action only!

Naphex-Male from Vancouver, B.C. Canada on 2001-05-15 10:44 [#00006447]

And hey Ross! I have an extra ticket to Roxy Music in
August.....the ticket is 90 smackaroonies! Yup $90! later

pauwl from pie shop on 2001-05-15 15:49 [#00006488]

new tool album is wicked, its very much a "grower", in the
same vain as aenima.

Netlon Sentinel from beyond on 2001-05-15 19:23 [#00006519]

yes, lateralus requires a few listens. it contains such
complex compositions. highlights for me are reflection and
ticks&leeches.

Ross on 2001-05-16 00:05 [#00006532]

whoa, 90 bucks..that\'s very expensive!

tim from www.mp3.com/digital_distraction on 2001-05-16 00:42 [#00006533]

picked up the tool album a little earlier than midnight
yesterday.. about 5pm.. lol... i'm not divulging my
sources..

anyway, first impressions of the album were: didn't like the
mix, the drums were too quiet and there is an annoying bass
frequency that is forced in your face... able to look past
the mix.. after 3 listens all the way through, love the
first 5 songs and the rest are slowly growing on me.. just
as Aenema...

did somebody say Squarepusher is coming out with something
new?

peace.

Ross on 2001-05-17 02:32 [#00006601]

does anyone else think the new weezer is somewhat of a
letdown?

[REFLEX] from Western Canada on 2001-05-17 02:46 [#00006602]

ross dude..you listen to so many crazy bands... Nsync and
shit... man!.. no just kidding. i read today that this will
be the backstreet boys FINAL tour!!! then they are calling
it quits... ah!!!

D-Hex from KC Missouri on 2001-05-17 02:59 [#00006605]

Yeah, Squarepusher's Red Hot Car came out may 15th. It has
4 songs. 1 is Red Hot Car, 2 is the remix, 3 is pure crap,
4 is a decent little tune. Worth the 7 bux.

On tool - I think its really great. There seems to be no
organization, its a big mess. Thats not a bad thing though.
It really rocks and is very unpredictable.

Ross on 2001-05-17 04:09 [#00006611]

Reflex- BBoys quitting? Oh shit, ill have to scalp a ticket
or something..i'll pay whatever, yes I will sell my flesh on
the black market!

[REFLEX] from Western Canada on 2001-05-17 04:31 [#00006612]

Yeah they are quitting man.. . for sure.. I read it in the
Edmonton Journal.... the newspaper.. thats awsome news to
me.
