Any other fans of Metal Gear Solid? This is kind of the
forgotten blockbuster of the Holiday season. I'm not seeing
much hype for it. This is my most anticipated game since,
like, Metal Gear Solid 2, 3-4 years ago. I'm so fucking
psyched that I beat MGS- Twin Snakes on Sunday and MGS2-
Sons of Liberty today. And I tried to beat the first Metal
Gear but it's borderline impossible. You know how it is. Old
NES games, eh?

It's out tomorrow, here... I probably won't be able to buy
it, but I'm running to Blockbuster and making sure I get it.

Sidenote, I think this game's soundtrack is going to be
something remarkable. Harry Greggson William's MGS3 theme is
easily the best video game track of the last few years, and
the glitchy tune when Snake is stalking the soldiers and
systematically slaying them in the forest is so neat... from
E3 2003.

Jesus, I can't wait to take control of Snake... or Big
Boss... or whoever this is...

Yeah I guess Halo 2 kinda just snatched all of the fanfare
from all the other good games.

Supposedly, it's lighter on the Codec, though I never had a
problem with that anyway. The story hype/theories
surrounding the release of this game have been great. Konami
did a great job at mindfucking everybody with the setup.
Avoiding spoilers, it's the story that's going to make this
game.

I had a problem with Raiden, though. A momumental mistake
that they didn't make twice. Did they actually think it
would be cool to take control of somebody that WASN'T Solid
Snake? All video game characters ever are boring, physically
unnattractive pussies compared to him.

The official IGN review is in, as of a few minutes ago...
9.6.

Fucking A.

Presentation
There are several new things to do in the game, but all are
easy to navigate. Customizing the backpacks also helps out
the in-game action by speeding up the changes.

10

Graphics
As good as it gets on the PS2 with individual blades of
grass, ropes on a bridge that can be shot out and tons of
other details scattered all over the place. Characters fare
just as well.

10

Sound
Quality voice acting as always in all aspects and a full
range of sound effects that populate the world with noises
in the Dolby Pro Logic II setup.

9.6

Gameplay
It's the best iteration of the stealth espionage action seen
to date with a world of options available to players. The
lack of camera views is understandable, but still a bit
disappointing.

9.0

Lasting Appeal
It's easy to see people playing through at least twice if
not many more times than that. Different strategies and the
frog hunt are the carrots on the stick for replayability
here.

Nothing but good to say about the story, thank God. So it's
quite a bit better than MGS2.

''This is a true return to form and a hell of a way for the
series to wrap up several plot lines in an exciting way.
They don't get much better than this.''

I think people who don't like the cut scenes should not be
allowed to play Metal Gear Solid.

In the UK I believe they've pushed the release back by about
5 months which is SHIT.

Holy shit, you guys have to wait 5 months for this? I don't
pay attention to European release dates... is it always
this way?

Oddly, over here, we're getting this game even before
Japan... Hideo Kojima has a grudge against the Japanese
gaming climate right now, I think.

The release date was yesterday, but I probably won't be able
to get this for a couple days... it takes a while for games
to get to my remote island in the sea. But I've got Metroid
Prime Echoes to keep me sane until then. Metal Gear is the
apple of my eye, though. Anyone have it yet?

The game takes place in 1967, so I don't think it's a
Walkman. Though that would be really groovy. It's some kind
of ultra-high tech strap on radio with enormous ear buds so
you can listen to the Carpenters when you're in the jungle.

Actually, I hear you can actually tune into different
stations using it... you can hold up guys and make them give
you secret frequencies, including a jazz station.

Awesome. I expect this to be the best game I've played in
years. I still don't have it... I spent the last week
cleaning up Metroid Prime Echoes, GTA-SA and Killzone...
will be getting this tomorrow.

I too loved the end of MGS2. It just went totally nuts.
Truly a video game not ashamed to be a video game at all.

Fuck this game is sexcellent. Great characters, cut scenes,
graphics, sound, script, everything. How can I kill thee,
let me count the ways. The only thing about it that isn't
brilliant is the old school camera. Gets me in some messes
sometimes.

I love the chick that saves your game and the conversations
you have with her about '60s movies. Bond and Godzilla and
all that. Crazy game, there's nothing like Metal Gear.
Probably the game of the year for me.

Ocelot is in it and he is inexperienced and cocky. You get
to kick his ass 1000 times.

There's some sexy ladies in this game. Snake can stare at
their tits in first person during cut scenes by holding the
R button. Great fun, great character models. They make my
groin feel funny.

What a great ending, finally a AAA game that actually DOES
blow its load. I laughed, I cried, I started a new game with
some bonus items.

I really do lament the camera, though... this beautifully
rendered jungle, and you're STILL limited to the video-gamey
overhead camera. It feels so archaic always having to go
into first person view to get a good look at the
graphics/situations. Intolerable for me, at times. Worse
than ever now, since the levels are so wide open. Very easy
to run head-on into guards during intense evasion.

But still, the game is fantastic. The boss battles are so
inspired. It took me like 2 hours to beat ''The End'',
heh... ''The End'' and ''The Sorrow'' really creeped me out.

The final battle against you-know-who in your-know-where
might go down as one of the most unforgettable video game
sequences ever, for me. Incredibly beautiful, that awesome
theme song, the gravity of the situation, the absurdity of
it all... man. Really intense finish, left nothing to be
desired. That's a hell of an accomplishment considering the
loose ends the game had to tie up, the legacy of the MGS
story, the expectations, etc. Fucking delivered. I too
needed to log onto game messageboards to talk about it as
soon as it was over.

I was dead-curious about the analord 3 and 4 pics on the

post my comments on this great game which I have been
burning through. I still haven't gotten Analord 10 yet, and
refuse to listen to samples but will post my thoughts when I
get it.

I'm going back to playstation and alcohol now. (Im trapped
