Regressing as a race?

Anybody else feel that as the world becomes more complex,
especially with more dependence on technology, we as humans
are regressing in terms of intelligence and morals?

Maybe I'm just getting older.

Well it's a fact that pre-literate and barely literate
cultures have astonishing memories for oral histories, epic
poems, etc - and there is evidence that Homer, for example,
performed the Iliad and the Odyssey as semi-improvisational
pieces from memory, sort of the way a guitarist would solo
by joining together standard riffs and scale fragments into
something new with each solo.

So I'd imagine that we'll lose more and more basic function
as we "outsource" it to technology. One year I taught
science at summer camp, the 10 year olds didn't know how to
use scissors but they had wonderfully agile thumbs from all
the videogaming.

The only thing we really must remember, as technology makes
us more and more obsolete and foolish, is the Epimenides paradox
so we can make our computer overlords explode if they become
cruel. It worked for Shatner!

They don't need to use scissors now. They're in a better
place.

i kinda think we're going through a very complex phase, but
i do think that all the complexities like technology, will
bring us all to our regressed state of simplicity.

animals.

and if that's how we need to do it, then sure.

true.

we're all trying to connect ourseleves.. through technology,
the internet, media, interests, cultures. it seems like a
common goal for us all to interact and relate on certain
levels. so don't you think with our technology advances soon
we will all be able to experience the same thing, all
connect the same way to the point where we're all one? like
animals. in their own species they are all the same because
they are all connected the same way. i think we're gonna end
up like that.. this is just a crazy way of getting there,
but very fitting.

yes. we're regressing.

a couple thousand years ago i would've been eaten by a
sabretoothed tiger because my eyes aren't good enough to see
it.

now, there's a small chance i'll live long enough to pass my
faulty genes on to my offspring.
